Romeo and Romeo

Words. Words can be as painful as a blade piercing your heart; cold, quick, and devastating. But they can also make you feel like you're floating on a cloud of peace- like you're safe. Sentences, however, are a complete string of words- sounds- emotions that can either fill you with beauty or a false sense of hope.

The things people say can change your view on the world; one minute you love something, the next it's gone and it's not yours anymore. But was it ever yours to begin with? It usually is not. Most of the time what you want is not necessarily what you need. Sometimes what you need is something you don't even want. You don't need something, someone, to feel complete.

Or do you?

CHAPTER ONE

Lance

"Where the hell is Verona?" Pidge flipped through her book, clearly not caring if she ripped the pages or not.

Hunk took the book from her, fear in his eyes as he checked for any tears. "I think it's in Italy."

These two, man. Such distaste for theatre. I, for one, love acting.

"'Two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Verona, where we lay our scene, from ancient grudge break to new mutiny, where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.'" I dramatically placed my hand on my chest, over exaggerating my expression.

Pidge snickered. "Shut up, Lance."

"Listen up everyone! On Friday I will be picking names out of a hat, choosing people to play roles in our school play- Romeo and Juliet." Ms. Pierre picked up a prop top hat and showed it to our drama class.

I heard about 4 people groan, one of them being Pidge. She preferred working on sound and lights. I still don't understand why she's taking this class.

The bell rang.

"Remember to practice reading lines! You never know if you're gonna get a part or not!"

"So, what part are you guys hoping for?" Hunk asked while putting his stuff into his locker.

Pidge leaned against the adjacent lockers. "I'm hoping i don't get one."

"Aw come on there's gotta be one part you're fine with."

Pidge sighed. "I hope I get the part of Tree #7"."

"How about you, Lance?"

I actually don't know. While I was hoping I'd get a part, I never actually thought about which part. "Uh... I guess... Romeo?"

"Wow, hoping for the big role, huh?" Hunk nudged my arm with his shoulder. "Who are you hoping for as Juliet?"

"Someone hot I guess." Honestly I'd be fine with anyone except the jocks. I hate them. Always loud and in-your-face. They disrespect students, teachers, everyone. I'm still baffled at the fact they made it this far into highschool.

When I got home I immediately started practicing. I took my book into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. I was home alone but being in a room that should be guaranteed quiet and isolated made me feel better. I mean I guess I'll read Romeo's parts. I took a deep breath and started.

"'Is the day so young?... Ay me! sad hours seem long. Was that my father that went hence so fast?... Not having that, which, having, makes them short.... Out--... Out of her favour, where I am in love.'"

"Who're you in love with?"

I swear I nearly peed myself.

"VERONICA GET OUT OF THE BATHROOM."

"But I have to pee." She crossed her arms and smiled, mentally making fun of me.

"I thought you were out shopping with your boyfriend." God I hate Mason.

"Nah. We broke up yesterday"

Oh thank GOD.

"So, what are you doing?"

"Practicing for our school's rendition of Romeo and Juliet."

"Oh so like 'to be or not to be', right?"

I'm gonna slap her someday. "Yeah, sure."

"Cool. But seriously, I have to pee so GET OUT."

When I got back into my room I decided to just lay on my bed and stare at the ceiling. What if I get the part but no one likes me? I thought. What if I get laughed at by the jocks? I mean, screw what they think, but they're popular and so everyone might laugh. Oh god what if-

My phone buzzed. Oh. A new message from the 'dead memes' groupchat.

[Pidge]: "does anyone know what the history homework was"

[Hunk]: "There was history homework"

Crap. I don't know, either.
