Chapter One

The heat was unbearable. I laid my head on the kitchen table, sighing in relief at the coolness that washed over me. "EREN" my mother called to me, stumbling into the kitchen holding two big boxes. I sat up quickly, wincing at the sudden humidity that hit me, and picked up the top box. "Thank you, I thought my arms were going to give out" my mother stated with a slight chuckle.
"No problemo" I responded, trying to hold back laughter at the sight of her flustered demeanor. "Where do you want this" I asked looking around the small room.
"Oh just set it down anywhere" she says with a glance around the room as well. I set the box down in the corner so that it will be out of the way and flop back into the chair to go back to the cool table." Eren, can you go get the other stuff from the car?" I hear my mom shout from the living room. I groan at the thought of having to go outside but reluctantly get up and go through the open door to get the boxes. I look over when I hear a slight creaking sound and am met with the sight of a boy about my age swinging on a swing set. He has pitch black hair with bangs hanging in the front and shaved short in the back. Steely gray eyes stated at the ground as he slowly pumped his legs back and forth. His pale skin was a surprise since there was rarely a day that was not sunny here, but none the less his skin was a perfect porcelain color, a striking contrast from his hair. A flare of heat came to my cheeks as a he looked over and fixed his narrowed eyes on me with a look of annoyance. I struggled to calm my blush and smiled, waving to him in an attempt to seem neighborly. He stated at me for a moment before looking away in what seemed to be disinterest. Anger bubbles up inside me at him ignoring me so flippantly but I ignored it and, completely forgetting the task my mother gave me, walked over to the boy.
"Hi, my name is Eren Jaeger. I seem to be moving into the house next to yours" I said in the cheeriest voice I could muster.
" Yeah, so?" The boy replied in a voice (that I admit sent chills down my spine) that sounded utterly uncaring. He raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow and looked up at me with what seemed like a permanent scowl settlers on his face. Indignation settled through me at his cold response and I crossed my arms putting on my on scowl.
" I was just trying to be friendly" I said as the boy gave me a look of disdain.
"Does anything about me seem to be asking for your friendliness?" He said with sarcasm dripping from every word. I gave him a sharp glare but his bored expression never changed.
"Whatever..." I said rolling my eyes and walking away from him.
"I'll show you around tomorrow, be ready at 1:00" he muttered, almost quiet enough for me to turn back and look at him, wondering if I had imagined it. He was already up and walking to his house so I ignored the nagging feeling to catch up with him and went back to my house.
"Eren, where are the rest of the boxes" my mother asked looking around confused.
"Oh crap..." I muttered
