He walked along the forest, a soft breeze kissed his cheeks and ran through his hair. The cool forest air surrounding him. It would not be long until he would see his friends house, he was sure of it. He walked for another hour, thankful of the pack be brought, set it down, opened it and took out a bottle full of water and took a few sips. He got up again and looked around, uncertainty began to take hold as he took out the map from his left back pocket. He unraveled the cloth and laid it out on the mossy floor. He studied the map and looked around, searching for a landmark. Something, anything. There were nothing besides trees as far as he could see.
Then an idea hit him, he would climb one of the trees and get his bearings. He headed over to the nearest tree, stuffing the map back into his pocket. He gripped a branch that was close to the ground and hoisted himself up. Careful as to not lose his balance he grabbed onto a higher branch and began to climb. A cool breeze rushed past him as he climbed the tree, his pack weighing him down slightly. He was almost halfway up when he sat on a thick branch and took out his map again.
He held the map out in front of him, it waved in the wind as if struggling to get away. He looked around, making sure to grip the map tight, there still wasn't much to see. He folded it up and stuffed it back into his pocket. He kept on climbing until the limbs on the tree got thinner, he peered around the canopy, there in the distance was his friends house. The lights on, he took out his glass from his pack and called them.
"Where have you been?!" they immediately said right as he called. "I sort of got lost," he said slightly embarrassed, "but I'm kinda close now!"
"This. This is why I gave you that map for your birthday," they scolded, "didn't I teach you how to use it?"
He went silent. Yes, she had, he took it out of his pocket and unraveled it. "Yeah you did! So I'm in a tree right now, I'll do the thing when I'm back on the ground!" he said balling up the map and shoving it in his pocket.
There was a long groan and the sound of a face palm "You know what, I'll just go pick you up." There was shuffling on the other end of the line, "stay put."
"I'll just get down and then I'll stay" he said reassuringly, and then hung up.
The way down was quicker than the way up, and he was down in no time. He took his glass and the map out, he double tapped the center of the map and synced the navigation app on his glass to the map. It glowed a light blue hue as it came to life. Soon the map showed his exact location via a small white arrow, he typed in his friends coordinates he had saved and a small golden dot appeared on the map. Then there was a purple arrow coming towards him at a fast pace.
He looked up at the sky, then at the map, the purple arrow was almost right on top of him. He looked up, above the canopy was his friend on their hover bike. They lowered themselves slowly and landed right in front of him.
"You know what, from now on I'll just pick you up, I don't even know why I let you walk to my place," they said as he shrugged and jumped on the back. They revved the engine and took off. They rose high above the canopy and sailed above the branches towards their home.
