Emilio's suspicion occurred when he noticed Rose smelled... different. Yet somehow painstakingly familiar. It's like a scent that triggers a flashbulb memory in your mind, back to when you were a child. Sweet, innocent and utterly bewildering. At first he assumed she had simply changed perfumes, which wasn't the most unlikely theory. However this thought was extinguished when he saw Rose spraying her pale throat with her usual luxuriously heavy bottled perfume, which he himself had purchased for their anniversary. When he sought up the courage to carefully ask his doting wife about this she played dumb and pledged she had no idea what he was talking about as her pale cheeks flushed pink. Emilio ignorantly believed her façade, a fly trap snapped, trapping him.
His mind truly started to unravel when he was hit by the scent the second time, whilst visiting his beloved daughter, Luisa. The strong scent violated his nostrils as he tried to desperately convince himself that this was all a coincidence, as he knew that Rose hadn't had contact with Luisa for months. And if she did, why would she lie. When Luisa replied that she hadn't on any perfume, his face turned hot and his mouth dry. He knew he would have to sleuth his way to the truth. Rose although never appearing secretive was too... honest to say the least. When he officially decided to keep a tab on her by having one of his associates follow her around, was when he thought it best to seek guidance from his son, Rafael.
When Emilio finished sharing his suspicions with Rafael, that Rose was cheating on him, Rafael laughed hysterically and told him he was becoming paranoid. He knew in his heart he had become possessive and cold but he cared so much for his wife that he couldn't bare it and grew furious at the notion that she had been sleeping around with another man. That's when he snapped, he began to see through the fake smiles and kisses, he noticed whenever he touched her or tried to make advances she would always feign an illness or shy away from his embrace. Even when he laid a hand on the small of her back he felt her shiver away, sand slipping through his fingers. When she was around others he noticed she despised being touched, even a handshake was too much for her. But he noticed at a recent family event that her shoulders relaxed when she was around his daughter, their arms touching slightly. He smiled through making of this, he liked the idea of his two girls getting along. When he came near her the shoulders were straight and her smile faded. It was maddening. He longed for the touch of her smooth cool skin upon his hands.
When his daughter Luisa had a mental breakdown and hallucinated a relationship with Rose he dismissed this and agreed to sign her away to an institution. He hadn't taken it seriously until he looked into Rose's eyes and saw that they had grown misty and tender upon seeing Luisa struggle and taken away from her. He noticed the way she shifted her hands uncomfortably upon her lap, her nails digging into her flesh, Luisa's absence clearly causing her pain. His own eyes shifted from her as he excused himself to his office. Emilio knew that this silly fantasy of Luisa's might be true, so pouring himself a glass of whiskey he drowned these thoughts until he could only remember Rose's name and nothing more.
When he joined Rose in bed he looked at her gorgeous face noting her full lashes and high cheekbones, caressing her hair, his fingers suddenly grasped a tight knot of red strands then released them, he couldn't hurt her, she was his ultimate weakness. His anchor, his everything. The next morning he awoke early and scheduled a visit to the institute. When he saw Luisa so confused and weary his heart twisted with guilt as he took her hand in his and led her away from everyone. He looked into her glistening eyes as he asked her if what she had said was true his hand gripping hers tightly. Luisa rather embarrassed and tearfully replied with a small "yes". Emilio snatched his hand away as he wiped a tear from his cheek and turned away from his daughter. Luisa begged for him to talk to her, to say something, anything. Emilio felt utterly repulsed that the two women in his life had lied and betrayed him like this. When Luisa rested a hand on his shoulder to get his attention he shoved her out of his way, disgusted and enraged. Luisa's face crumpled as her back slammed into the wall, her hands trembling with fear as she whimpered softly. Her body slid down the grimy wall her head falling into her hands, her eyes weakly flickering open as she caught his jealous eyes.
Emilio stormed out of the institution and into his car, beating his fists across his steering wheel like a petulant child screaming with frustration and anger. After his tantrum ended he calmly put his key in the ignition and drove. He didn't care where or why but he just needed to drive. To clear his head. When the sky started to fade from pale pink to black he headed, driving as slowly as possible to Rose. His feelings were sour and bitter, how could Luisa and Rose do this to him, his own flesh and blood be romantically involved with his lover. His stomach turned, sickened by thinking about how to react. He thought back to his treatment with Luisa and tried to control his anger towards Rose. His stomach twisted with guilt as he thought of his daughters body, he threw her into the wall, like she was nothing but a doll. A plan began forming in his mind. When he had reached his destination he smiled grimly as he entered the Marbella, trudging up the stairs instead of the lifts, taking as long as possible before entering the room. Rose greeted him with a sly smile as she filled up his glass with wine, as she slowly sat down in her chair. He took in her thick hair curled and perfect, her face flawless, her figure hugged by a plain black dress which she made look impossibly interesting. When he got to his seat he put the glass to his lips and sipped the dark liquid locking eyes with his wife as if nothing had happened.
