   // Alistair Dawson //

It was cold outside and Alistair absolutely loathed this weather. He grunted as he walked up the stairs to his apartment. The slight limp in his left leg had only gotten worse throughout the day. It always did on colder days like this one. The stairs seemed longer than ever and when he finally made it to the top he just stood there, resting for a few minutes. He made it to the living room and collapsed on the couch. Luckily, August would stay over at a friend's house. Otherwise, Al knew for a fact his little brother would be worried about him. Hurting his leg by walking those darn stairs was something he could handle. Hurting August, however, was a different story.

It was only 10 pm but he was exhausted. The combination of little sleep and a long day of work took it's toll on his body. Alistair limped towards his bed, not bothering to change. His blue converse were thrown to the other side of the small room.

Nearly two frustrating hours later he was still wide awake. The dark circles under his gunmetal blue eyes proved tonight wasn't an exception. If this was going to be one of those nights again, Alistair decided he'd better get some coffee. He eyed the small box on his bedside table. The doctor had prescribed the sleeping medicine when his nightmares started. No one told him meds were expensive as hell though. The few pills left in the box would be enough for two, maybe three nights. There would come enough times were Alistair would need them more than now. At least he got in a solid three hours of sleep last night.

After a short walk, he arrived at his usual cafe. Not many places were open at night in his small town. Most of the time, Alistair was the only one there and tonight didn't seem to be an exception, but just as he closed the door behind him he found out he was wrong.
