Faster.
Faster.
Faster.
Ella talks to herself as she runs towards the road ahead of her. She is losing steam. Her body aches from all this time. She is losing energy. But worst of all, she is losing faith.
She knows she has to make it to this road. After that, she no longer cares what happens to her. She just wants to taste freedom. Even if it is only for a split second.
Ella leaps up onto the hot pavement and allows the asphalt to burn the palms of her hands for a moment before standing herself up. She has never been happier to see a road. She is here.
Finally.
She smiles and pumps her hands into the air. She did it. She made it. Freedom is so close she can taste it.
All this time, all this effort she has put in to her escape and she has finally done it. She is one step closer to going home to her family.
Finally.
She hears an engine approaching. She sees it coming towards her in the distance. Ella runs to the middle of the road and throws her arms in the air to alert the driver that she is here.
She smiles as the driver approaches and the car slows down to aid her. Rescue is here. It's finally here.
Finally.
The driver parks his car and unbuckles his seatbelt to help her. But it is too late.
Ella is hit from behind. Her body flies into the woods she just escaped from. The driver who hit her slams into the parked car in front of her. The careless driver is killed instantly on impact with the parked car.
Ella's limp body slams against a large tree. She slides down it and crumbles beneath it. So many bones inside of her are broken. If she could feel it right now, she would be in so much pain.
Though, some would argue that a loss of a loved one would hurt more than any form of torture or pain you could be put through.
Ella knew of that pain first hand. She saw the helpless love of her life get slaughtered before her eyes. She saw the vacant look in Aubrey's eyes after she had perished.
And though she never got to see their reactions, Ella knew her family was grieving their loss of their daughter.
The driver who escaped his car just in time to avoid the accident runs to Ella's side. He checks for a pulse and administers basic first aid tactics as best as he can.
Ella is free.
Finally.
