                Lucas Robert Hemmings

"Am I the only one I know,

Waging my wars behind my face and above my throat.

Shadows will scream that I'm alone.

But I know, we've made it this far, kid."

TODAY IS THE DAY. Yesterday I took an entrance exam and to everyone's surprise I pasted it. So, now I'm an official student of Dalton Academy. I hit the snooze button for the fifth time. Jade has to walk in and physically pull me out of bed. I push away from her and finally get up. I walk into the bathroom and close the door. I slip out of my boxers and turn the shower on. I step into the shower and let the water drip down my body. I blink several times before actually laughing. I'm finally going to school again. I hear a pounding on the bathroom door and I know I have to hurry. I slip on a pair of clean black skinny jeans and a white tee after I'm done showering. I style my hair the right way and then walk down the stairs. Ben is sitting at the table finishing his homework that he was suppose to be done with yesterday.

"Luke, what's this answer?" Ben asks. I shake my head at him as I take his pencil and fill in all the answer of his math homework. I hurriedly give him back the pencil when my mum walks in the kitchen.

"Now, Ben, that's how you get the answer." I nod my head and he nods back.

"Lucas." My mother scolds me when she walks to the fridge and I gulp down a smile.

"Luke." Jade smiles as she hugs me. My sister is 5'10 but she's taller then most of the girls I meet. Whenever people hear the name Jade they think of a girl with dark hair and dark eyes. But that's just the opposite of my sister. "I wish you were a girl so I could put makeup on your eye and it be sociable excepted." She smiles.

"Haha." I snap at her as she just shrugs her shoulders as her blonde hair falls down her back. I look down at Ben and mess his brown hair up, he whines, before I smile at my mum: "I'm ready."

"What? No you aren't." She laughs.

"Why not?" I look down at my outfit and see nothing wrong.

"First you need your lunch," my mum hands me a paper bag, "and a book-bag with all the school supplies that you need." She hands me a black and brown bag—that's very heavy. "It's a Modcloth bag." She smiles.

"Whoa! A Modcloth? Why didn't I have one when I went to high school?" Jade asks.

"Well, Jade, they weren't popular when you went to school." My mum smiles at her and then pokes her nose. "Plus they're expensive just like your high school was. Now, Lucas, it's time to go." She tries to take my hand but I slip away. I don't like when people touch me without permission.

"Are you going to drop Ben off at his very expensive middle school or am I?" Jade says smartly.

"Yes, smart ass, you are and then you have to go to your very expensive college." My mum scolds my older sister who throws her arms up in the air in a mock. Jade gathers up Ben's papers as he looks for his book-bag. Ben looks at me and I lift my head to upstairs. He's mouth makes an 'O' and then he storms up stairs. Seconds later he comes down with his Spiderman book-bag and Jade puts his papers in.

"Okay, we're all ready." My mother smiles at us all. Jade now has her long blonde hair in a beanie and her blue eyes staring into my blue eyes and she smiles. I then look down at Ben; his brown hair is still a mess but he's teal eyes are happy. I finally look at my mother and smile at her. Her blue eyes are brighter then they have been for awhile and her blonde hair is curled to perfection. I nod at my mother as she gestures for us to leave the kitchen. I sling my new book-bag on my shoulder, close the door after everyone leaves, then slide into my mother's car.
