Alexia Williams was never your average little girl. What made her stand out from normal kindergarten girls her age was the fact that she was a werewolf and her need to have people treat her like a boy.
Her name repulsed her to no end. "Alexia," her mother would call her, and she always responded with a growl. "My name is Alex." She would seethe.
There was no end to the beatings and scoldings she would get because of it. But young Alexia just wouldn't have the name.
Every week her mother would go out to town, and every week she bought Alexia a brand new barbie doll. But by the next day, the brand new barbie doll would look nothing short of a rag doll. The full head of blonde hair each doll would have, would be brown with dirt and grime. The pretty sparkly dresses that came with the doll would be torn or gone completely. And once a month Alexia, her brother Dylan, their friends Zack, Jacob and Riley, would gather up all the battered dolls and launch them into the air, like they were hats on graduation day. They would play tug of war with the barbies, beat each other senseless and a whole set of other things that Alexia's mother dreaded.
Her father Phillip tried to convince his wife that Alexia was just going through a phase, and she would snap out of it sooner or later. "She is a growing girl, Marge." He would say, "She is going to get tired of her silly ways sooner or later." And Marge would always respond the same way. "I hope your right Phillip, I hope your right." She would sob into her husband's shoulder.
But Phillip wasn't right. As the years went by Alexia only got worse. She would resort to threatening the lives of anyone who called her Alexia, until the name was long forgotten. She eventually stopped talking to boys altogether and always hung around one girl in particular, Stacy.
They always looked at each other as if the other were the other half of their soul. When they got to grade seven the girls weren't anything short of inseparable. Then the years went on and the last year of high school came around, and Alex's parents dreaded what they had become.
They had just graduated, and the girls, if possible seemed more infatuated with each other. The girls parents realized this, but never took action until the incident. It happened in Stacy's bedroom, and unfortunately for the girls, Mrs Devin was just coming to give them some cookies. When she saw what was going on the platter of cookies fell from her trembling hands, and she ran to call the Williams.
To say the two families were furious, would be an understatement. They took no time to rush to the Devin's residence, to separate the girls. "What will happen when you find your mates?" Mr Devin asked, but the girls simply stated "We reject them."
They would not listen to their parents pleas and reasoning.
Counselling sessions were in vain, because the girls had their minds set on what they were doing. They made up their minds that what they were up to was right, and nothing would sway their opinions. The two families were at a loss, since they couldn't figure out what to do.
They finally came up with a decision, the two families would move. Each going in a different direction, so that the girls would not be together.
But Dylan wanted his sister to be happy so he betrayed his parents and told the girls of their plans.
The girls knew what they had to do, there was no other possible option if they wanted to be together. They had to run away. So with their bags packed and no doubt in their mind, that they wanted each other they fled from their pack and their home in Houston Texas.
"Together forever." Alex whispered to Stacy as they ran off into the night, hand in hand.
