Chapter 29

I smiled, knowing that he had just thought of the perfect plan. I heard Jay call out again, “Well, let’s just head into the kitchen to see how he’s doing.”

This time however, I relaxed, my body already swaying to the music. Nathan put his hands lightly on my waist and we heard the boys enter the room. Nathan kept his eyes on mine and I kept mine on his. I smiled and thought to myself “It’s just me and him right now. Just us dancing, no one else.” As soon as the song ended, Nathan pulled me into a hug, rocking me back and forth gently.

There was a chorus of “Awwws” throughout the kitchen and Nathan and I abruptly broke apart, both of us looked sheepishly towards the laptop. I’ll admit, us breaking apart like that looking surprised by the boys filming us was perfect. It really didn’t look like we were aware that boys had been pointing the webcam at us at all. Tom said: “Ayyyy you’ve been caught!!”

Jay started speaking next: “Well, we sent Nathan into the kitchen to make some tea but looks like he only came in here to dance instead. Say hi to the camera, Nath.”

Nathan waved and said “yo!” towards the direction of the laptop.

“Care to introduce your friend there, Nathan?” I glanced over at Max, but then Nathan grabbed my hand so my eyes flew towards our hands instead.

“Right yeah, everyone, this is Sophie… my girlfriend.”

I gave a small smile and waved while saying “hi” to the webcam. My voice sounded nervous. Shit. I tried to make myself look relatively calm and happy. There was an awkward pause where neither I, nor none of the boys said anything. Jay finally broke it: “Well Nath and Sophie, why don’t you two come join us back in the living room.”

We all started making our way back towards the living room. As we were walking, Nathan whispered in my ear: “You might have to talk on the ustream some more. If you do, just stay calm and be yourself. Show everyone how sweet and fun you are.” He squeezed my hand and kissed my temple. I was nervous as hell, but determined to come across well. Once again I found myself praying that everything would work out.
