Simon, Isabelle, Alec, Jace, Clary, Jocelyn and Luke were all crouded round a large canvas leaning against the wall in admiration. The painting was of everyone. Everyone who was standing round it - and Magnus. Clary spoke first.
"Mom" she said in awe. "It's incredible. Thank you, you didn't have to do this, you know."
"Yes, I did. I wanted to. Now, we're officially a family" she gestured to Luke and Clary. "It made me realise how much of a family we all are. The Lightwoods -and Magnus, of course - have done so much for us and I wanted to paint this so we'll always have it to treasure no matter what happens."
The painting was incredible, everyone agreed. Jocelyn and Luke were stood in the middle wearing what they had on their wedding, smiles as big as the universe. On either side of them was Clary and Simon - in fact, everyone was wearing their wedding outfits. Clary stood with Jace, his arm around her, smiling. Clary was looking at Jace, hugging him with one arm.around his waist. On the other side of the painting, Simon had his head on Isabelles whose head was on his shoulder.
They truly were a family.
"You're still doing the dishes then?" Alec had appeared in the kitchen doorway raising his eyeborws at his boyfriend,
"Well, since everyone abandoned me - I haven't exactly had any help."
Alec walked up to put his arms around his waist from behind him. "Ahhhww, I would never abandon you." He said smiling into Magnus' back.
Magnus ditched the marigold gloves in the sink, twisted the tap off and turned to face his boyfiend, looking at him directly in the eye.
"I know you wouldn't, Alexander. I'm just too magnificent." He said very matter-of-factly.
Alec nudged him playfully in the shoulder which was just below his head hight. Magnus was slightly taller than him which Alec loved and hated at the same time.
"Oh, you're not that great." He said playfully, failing to hold back a smile.
Magnus just laughed as if what Alec had said was ridiculous. "Hey!" He exclaimed. "I was thinking of you - you know - at Jocelyn and Lukes wedding, how handsome you looked" Alec blushed at this. God he thought, I have to get a grip! It's just a compliment.
"And anyways, it got me thinking..." Magnus continued, "We should go shopping today!"
"N-"
"Ah, ah, ah! Before you object...well, don't object." Magnus said sternly. "We're going and that's final"
Alec narrowed his eyes at him. "You're really the epitomy of infuriating."
Magnus chuckled softly. "I love you, too."
************
"So...what sort of thing were you hoping to buy me anyway?" Alec asked, curious as they strolled down the busy high street.
Magnus raised his eyebrows. "Who says I'll be buying it for you!" But, really he knew he would anyway. He knew he would do almost anything for his beloved shadowhunter.
"Magnus, you don't really think I'd come shopping with you, if I actually had to buy anything with my own money, do you?"
His boyfriend just laughed, looking around for any promising shops. "Of course not, Alec, I'm only teasing." He smiled sweetly at him then and kissed his forehead.
"Oooh! Look! There's a sale on at the mall!" Magnus seemed so excited, Alec had to gently put his hand on his boyfriends arm to calm him, worried he would start jumping up and down.
