Chapter 2 - part 1: Social Services

Greg's POV

"Well if they're going to live with you they cant just stay in the temple. They need a house." I told the Gems

"Well, how do we get one?" Amethyst asked

"You have to pay builders a ton of money and they build one for you ar you move into one that already exists and I don't have the money for either." I said and I hated to admit it.

"We'll build one." Garnet said

"What?! Are you crazy that would take forever and we'd still need a lot of money." Honestly, Gems are quite stupid in my opinion. "Plus we'd have to leave the kids and they don't sit still unless they have a T.V. or..." I said getting an idea

"What?" Pearl asked

"You'll see. But now I've got to get the kids to sleep so I'll see you tomorrow." I said and walked off to the kids.

A day later I bought Steven a ukelele to entertain him and (Y/N). I told him how to play a few songs that (Y/N) and him sing.

I ran out of songs to teach Steven and he and (Y/N) made a theme song for them and the Crystal Gems.

  I was humming the tune of their theme song when the kids came up behind me holding hands and said in sync,
"Can we have some juice Daddy?"
"Yeah, sure." I said and went to get the juice when someone knocked on the door.
"Dad! There's a lady here!" I heard the kids shout from the door.
I ran over to the door and saw a lady from the social services.
I laughed nervously and said, "They don't usually do that its j-" I was cut off by myself when I saw the gems "Them!" I said "The kids have been waiting all week for today. Isn't that right kids?"
"Greg who's this?" Pearl asked
"Are these family?" The social worker asked
"Yes, no technically no but they are classed as family." I said
"Shall I come back tomorrow?" She asked
"Yes that would be great." I said and as she walked away I sighed in relief. "Oh guys come in." I said to the gems.

"Who was that?" Pearl asked me as I paced up and down the room.
"Social worker." I replied
"Why was she here?" Garnet asked
"To check if I'm taking care of the kids properly." I told her
"What happens if you're not?" Amethyst asked
"They take them away from me..." I said as I stopped pacing and teared up thinking about it
"What?! They have no right to!" Pearl said
"Yes they do... If the government think that the kids are unsafe they can take them away whether we like it or not." Tears started coming down from my eyes. "They're going to ask the kids questions about me and their life, if they're happy here, if they are hurt, if I drink or smoke."
"I don't see why you're worrying so much." Amethyst said
"He's worrying because the kids could get taken away. And I see multiple futures where this does happen so he has every right to worry Amethyst." Garnet said never losing her calm mood.

"I just don't want to have them taken from me..." I said crying so much I didn't notice the two four year olds standing in the doorframe listening to the entire conversation.
