I got home and heard some old cassette tapes playing in the new living room and heard quiet sobbing. "Mother?" I whispered. I heard scrambling and a great heave of breath. "What were you doing?" I asked, genuinely curious."Darling, where were you today?" She asked me. "The Wolfhaven principal called me. He said you were accepted and could start tomorrow, if you'd like of course."I looked over the back of the couch and saw bunches of used tissues. "You can't answer my question with a question or simply change the subject." I narrowed my eyes, "What. Were. You. Doing?"My mother dropped her head, "Sweetie, I want to live with your father..." I saw some rope, a chair, bleach, knives and all sorts of pills just in the doorway to the kitchen, "Mum! You can't leave me! I don't want to be fostered or adopted, being a teenager is hard, I need my real mother to help me!" I started crying. And although I could not drive legally yet, I put mum in the car and drove to the hospital. I took her in and explained to them what she had been doing. They took her in and gave me an option, grant her wish to be with my father or let her stay here until she's healed. They also gave me some time, "Mum, you can't leave me, kids at school already hate me and...and, am I not good enough for you?!" My mother asked the doctors multiple times to let her go, each time I refused. The doctor seized me and I saw how sweaty and teary I was, "We only just moved in down the road, I thought this would be a new start, but she still wants to go," I started to cry and I watched as my mum was given a mask. Slowly, her eyes shut, her nose stopped condensing warm air and I knew the doctors gave in to her. "No!!!" I screamed as I was taken by the doctors to my car. One of the nurses drove me to the police station and the officer was asleep. She said to me, "I'll take you home to get some things and you can sleep at my house until you settle down, I have a boy about your age too, maybe you two will get along," I nodded and threw my hood over my face, plugging my earphones in, I listened toP!ATD's 'This Is Gospel.' I did love my mother, however I did not want to let go. I gathered my suitcase that I didn't unpack this morning and hauled it into the back. I stayed silent throughout the car trip and we pulled into a driveway, "I'm so sorry sweetie, some people do prefer their lives over their children and those children prefer their parents over other families, the world is a cruel place..." her voice drifted off as she walked to the porch. What was that supposed to mean? She fiddled with some keys and I got out of the car. I got my suitcase out of the back and walked up to the door. I studied the entrance and predicted this was quite a new house. I heard a man's voice, "Helen, Helen, is that you Helen?"I heard the nurse call back, "Yes, Paul, I'm home with a gift for our family, a poor little girl's mother wanted to go to her husband and left this girl, Zia McKinnon." The man named Paul shouted, "GRAYSEN JAMES HUNT, GET DOWN THOSE STAIRS NOW!" I heard footsteps and a door shut, Graysen, as in the guy who walked up to me?I saw Graysen emerge from the darkness, and he looked at me. "Paul, what is she doing here?" He asked in a calm tone. Paul shrugged and said to ask Helen, which she carefully explained and stopped for a brief moment. "You two have met?" She looked at me, I nodded and Graysen said that I was starting tomorrow and scoped out the school earlier. "Well you can show Zia the guest bedroom and invite her to eat with us, be a gentleman. Unlike your father." Helen scowled.Graysen grabbed my hand and dragged me upstairs. He opened a door to reveal a bathroom and closed it, "That's the toilet, do you know what a toi-let is?" I narrowed my eyes and nodded at him. "Sorry, just checking, I don't know the luxuries of the country, do you know what a bed is?" I huffed at him and crossed my arms. "Why aren't you talking? This morning you spoke to me, is this awkward for you?" I shook my head and tears started to form in my eyes. Graysen lead me to a very fancy room, it was red and white, with car posters and a picture of a girl I saw at school today. "This is my room, if you don't feel comfortable sleeping alone, crawl into my bed with me, I know, it's weird, but for your sake," I nodded and hugged him. I went back to the picture of the girl and pointed to it. "She's my ex girlfriend, she's moving away, leaving me behind, I hate her now that I realise she made a lot of people's lives hell. Even mine." I never depicted Graysen to be emotional, but here I am, watching a young man get upset.
