It was 2 weeks after your 23rd birthday and you couldn't be happier.
You had a boyfriend who you were sure was your soulmate.
You didn't even have your sign yet and nor did he, but it felt right. You had both been dating for about 2 years now and today you guys had a date planned.
A walk around the park just hanging out and then froyo after. It was almost time for him to pick you up and you sat in your living room waiting. Fiddling with the hem of your shirt, you were getting nervous. He was typically around 15 minutes early, only because he wanted to talk to your parents.
Your parents were always over in the afternoon on weekdays to eat dinner.
You checked your phone and sighed. 5 minutes until 9. He was an hour late. It was making you anxious. Quickly, you clicked on YouTube and decided to watch the newest BTS Run episode. It took your mind off of Donte and made you laugh at the boys antics. You spotted Jin and watched as the gem on his face twinkled. It was in the shape of a tear drop and right on the outside edge of his eye. It was gorgeous. His sign was one of a kind and no other person had it.
Suddenly, 10 minutes in, you get a call. Annoyed that they interrupted your precious video, it soon turned to anger when it was Donte. Realizing something may have happened you calmed down.
"Donte? Hi!" You stood up from your couch and walked around.
"Sorry (Y/N) but I can't pick you up tonight..." Your heart sank but you decided to let it go.
"Another night then right?" You were forcing a smile on your face even though you were alone.
"Actually, no. I don't think so.... unless." Your breath caught as he paused.
"Did you get your soulmate sign yet?"
With shaky breaths, you brought the phone away. You knew where this was going. You placed it back on your ear.
"I. What. I..." Your world was crumbling down. In a matter of sheer seconds everything was being dumped down the trash chute. No matter how many times you shook your head, you already knew.
"(Y/n). I'm sorry."
After those last words, the line went dead. You stayed standing moments after he hung up. The phone slowly fell from your hand. You could hear it crack as it hit the floor.
You stood in confusion as the tears were waiting to come out. Breathing became harder at the moment. You picked up your phone, hoping Donte had text you.
Maybe it was all just a really bad prank. A really bad one. Instead, you saw nothing.
The tears freely fell down your face and you were left rethinking the past 2 years of your life.
So if you get a soulmate, is every other person you've been with irrelevant?Even after everything you've been through together? After you picked up their sorry asses from off the ground? After the words 'I love you' were exchanged multiple times?
Is it all nothing?
You screamed. It felt right. The tears still fell down your face. Next thing you know, your phone was across the room.
Running to the wall with all your pictures and memories, you got angrier.
You threw down a picture of the two of you smiling at the beach. Smashing it into pieces, you felt you heart shatter as well. The more you stomped on the glass, the more the crunching glass satisfied you.
You picked up another picture. A picture with your parents and Donte. Flinging it across the room as well, it crashed into a bookshelf.
A bookshelf full of his books.
You left the wall and reached for books that held your love.
As you tore page after page from the books, you were were also tearing out every single belief you had of love.
You knew it was over dramatic.
But 2 years!?
2 years?!?
And all you got was a sorry.
You fell into the pile of paper and glass.
A few minutes later, you heard the door open.
"What happened in here? (Y/n)?" Instead of answering, you sat trying to catch your breath.
You heard your parents tentative footsteps towards you.
Your dad sighed. "Looks like he told you..."
Your head shot up. "You knew?" The anger was evident in your voice.
"(Y/n)-." You shook your head as your mom tried to talk to you.
"Don't. Just- Just let me think awhile okay?"
With that you walked down the hallway. Flicking every picture of you two off as you passed them.
Soulmates.
Why were you born into a world with such a idiotic concept?
