'what kind of poet do you want to be?', or; a promise

86 8 2

i want the power

to give women a world

as beautiful as they

could ever dare;

as passionate as they

could ever burn;

as real as they

could ever feel.

i want to be a woman

who takes up sappho's lyre.

i want to be unashamed

in throwing down my weaving

and crying out

for a woman's love.

i want to write words

that echo her call

to the lonely,

the loved,

and the longing;

and watch

as they embrace.

i want to remind women

to love themselves

and each other

in all the ways they know

and more.

the kind of poet

i want to be

is a lover.
