Gabbie pressed me for an answer, but I simply told her I didn't want to talk about it.
"Okay, I'll drop it for now, but you have to tell me at some point," she said to me.
We stay in silence for what felt like forever until the door to the room opened again. David, Scott, and Liza all walked in.
"Hey," Liza said, "How are you"
"I'm..alright," I said in reply, though it's not really true
David offered to get us food and asked me to go with him. I hesitated, but Gabbie assured me it would be okay if I left. So I went with David. The car ride was silent for the most part. I don't think David really knew what to say.
"How are things?" I said to him
"Things are fine. I think we're all a little on edge because of Heath. Do you have any idea as to how this could have happened? Heath is a good driver"
My first thought went to the camera and what was on it. Heath must have been freaking out over it.
"No, I have no idea. Sometimes things happen I guess." I blabber out.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. It's just a little crazy is all. We're all freaking out. Heath is one of the most careful drivers I know, he loves that truck so much. It's just crazy to think that he seriously got in a car accident" he says with a confused look.
We sit in silence a little longer until we drive past a chipotle
"David?" I say on the verge of tears
"Yah?" he response
"It was my fault, I wasn't there but its all because of me." I choke out, now the tears are falling.
"What do you mean?" he asks now looking at me.
"I wouldn't talk to him about what was wrong, and he wasn't himself. He said he had to go get cigarettes but he had just gotten a carton of them last week. he doesn't smoke that much. When he left I found them and there was only 2 taken out. I went to go look form him and I saw the crash happen."
"Dude, it is not your fault. It is just the timing of all this is weird. He'll be fine. We have to be there for him and each other, okay? he says while rubbing my shoulder.
"Yeah, I guess you are right,... " I say
I can't tell him the rest of the story. I can't tell anyone. I don't understand what happened, so how can they. This has been a long day and it is gonna be a long few days once he wakes up.
I go to grab my phone and realized that I fucked big time
I left the camera there
"Shit, uhh dude we gotta go back," I say hoping I can get there before she looks at it.
"Why, we are almost there." He says looking confused
"uh uh I uh left my wallet there hehe," I say and can feel the sweat forming on my face.
God I am a bad lier
"Dude, don't worry. I got chu" he says pulling in to Chick-fil-a
"Hehe, thanks man, but um I gotta uh take a leak I'll be right back," I say, as I almost jump out of the car
I sprint to the bathroom and lock myself in. What am I supposed to do? Call Liza, no. Too many questions. Gab.... NOPE! Scott, yeah that will work. It has to.
"Come on, pick up. Plea... Hey, no time to explain. My camera is in heath room get it, Don't watch it, and for the love of god don't ask. Keep it away from Gabbie. I'll explain when I get back, kinda. Okay bye." I spit out an hang-up and go back to the Telsa.
Scott's POV
ummm kay
Heath's POV
Everything hurts, I can't move or open my eyes
But I can hear.
"Yeah, it down the left side of the hall 2nd door" I hear Gabbie, I think
"Thanks. brb baby. HAHAHAHA I'll go home," Yep that's Liza
"Where is it? He didn't leave with it but where did he put it." Gabbie says, instantly after the door closes.
What is she talking about, It can't be the ca....
"YES! Finally. You can hide this from me, Zane." She says
NO, its the camera. no no no no no
"NO STOP! STOP IT! IT'S NOT YOURS! NOO!" I scream out as Scott comes in
I see Gabbie with the camera
"GIVE IT TO ME! NOOOW. Now, no..." I say and feel a poke in my arm.
"It.. it is not for he.... her," I say, as it gets dark again
Third Person POV
"Nurses, room 203. stitches opened up possible internal bleeding. OR room needs to be prepared STAT!" The doctor on duty says while running with Heath.
"Gabbie, are you okay?" Scott asking his shocked friend
Before she falls, Scott catches her. and just sit there until Liza come back.
Liza comforts her silent friend when David and Zane walk through the door.
