It was like every previous nights. Lauren falling asleep on the cold hard floor waiting for a message from her father. And just like every previous mornings, she found no sign of her father wanting to answer her messages at all.
Lauren sighed heavily, rolling to her back as soon as she saw the empty inbox then stared at the ceiling.
Thump.
The sound made her jump, eyes widened in disbelief at the blind girl standing a few meters away.
Ally has a dart positioned between her fingers, aimed, and her brown-sightless eyes focused on a dartboard acrossed the room.
"You're kidding, right?" Lauren gasped, getting to her feet and watched the other girl hit the red dot in the middle of the board. "How do you do that?"
"I went to this dance and some emo guy gave me a dart hex." Ally explained like it made a lot of sense.
Long ago, Lauren would have laughed her ass off if she heard anything about hexes and magic curses, but messing up with an actual witch boy made her think twice this time.
"Bite me." She mumbled under her breath, knowing whoever gave that hex to Ally might have been the same guy who gave her this current misery.
"Oh, hey!" Ally smiled, picking up a book from a table and passing it over to her. "Now you're up, want to learn something?"
"No."
"Be careful." The girl warned, walking over to the board to get her darts back. "Lose your smarts, blondes will be telling jokes about you."
Oh, please. Lauren smirked and set the book on the shelf behind her. It wasn't like her ex Carly isn't already telling one. Are they exes now? They didn't even had a proper break up.
"My dad always said that how much people like you is a directly proportional to what you look like." She looked down, just seeing everything clearer now, however terrible it made her feel. "But they hated me."
Ally turned to face her with a small smile. "High school unquestionably sucks ass."
Lauren tilted her head curiously, not only because the older girl managed to bull's eye the dart once again but also because of the unexpected share of Ally's old life. "You went to a regular school?"
"At fifteen, my friends lost their virginity. I lost my sight. But living hell has its upside." Ally shrugged.
"Like better hearing?"
"Yeah. And people dig blind girls."
Lauren went to grab the darts and brought them back to the tutor. "Too bad they don't dig ugly girls."
Ally's smile faded, holding her arm to stop her from walking away. "How do you know, Lauren? There has to be a few people out there who would tell you otherwise."
Yeah...easy to say for a person who doesn't see how horrible she looks, Lauren shook her head, aiming to go ahead with her usual dull routine.
To be honest, the way she sees it, people would only like her for what she used to look like, or what she can do or give them.

Her fist clenched unknowingly when she found it.
Lauren ran her eyes through her files and located the school photographer's email taken during the night of her victory party.
