Training Sessions

The next day we went to training. I knew that I had to make allies to survive. I walked over to a rack of weapons. I took a hand axe and practices with the targets. I practiced for a while until I heard a voice behind me. "Hey, you done?" She was leaning against the wall and I assumed she wanted to practice here. "Sure,"
I started walking over to where she was standing. I hadn't finished the session, so the machine was still on. A target ran up behind me. I swung the axe and hit it between the eyes. I finished the course, and from the look on the girl's face, it impressed her. I handed her the axe. She fired up the exercise and I decided to watch. She was good. She was slower, but hit with precision. I occasionally gave her advice, like "There's one coming on your left." Or, "Careful, your losing grip." Once she finished she tossed the axe on the rack. "You did great," I told her. "Thanks, I know. Name's Joanna." She walked over to a section where you had to start a fire. I followed her. "I'm Cricket." She grabbed some dry leaves and twigs. She tried to make a spark using rocks. "You know, you have a better chance with fire sticks." I took a stick and spun it in my palms on some leaves, and smoke began to drift up. I added twigs and eventually some larger branches. Soon the fire grew. "Cool, thanks." She smiled at me and started her own fire. "No problem." I walked over to a shooting range. Katniss was finishing up her session, and saw me. I knew I had to be allies with her. Not only was she very popular with sponsors, but she had been friends with Rue. "Hey Katniss, can I talk with you for a second?" "Sure," she shrugged, putting the bow on the rack. "So, you were friends with Rue, right?" She stopped and looked at me. "Sorry, I didn't mean to bring back bad memories. It's just that we were pretty close." She looked down. "It's fine." She said. "You did great in that session." I said, changing the subject. "Thanks, I saw you making a fire, that was pretty cool." She looked back up at me. "Sorry, I'm not good at making friends." "That's fine, I'm no good either." I said. "How 'bout we be allies instead?" I held out my hand. She shook it. "Ok, deal."
