Chapter 14
The bell finally rung, releasing the hordes of teens into the world. Instead of leaving the school building, two of them instead stayed in the library.
"Hmm. I think we should start on graphing systems of equations today. Mrs. Rey said something about it today and it would be good to get a jump start on that."
"Sounds good to me! How do I graph it or whatever?" At this, Luke launched into a long winded explanation of what to do and why you do it.
"Umm, so I didn't understand a single word of what you just said. How about I tell a corny math joke before you tell me in human-speak how this whole thing works."
Luke smiled and nodded. "Sure, why not?"
"Without geometry, life would be pointless!"
Both of them broke into mirthful giggles. The joke wasn't that funny, but for some reason, neither one of them could stop laughing. Claire stopped laughing, her head close to Luke's.
Again she noticed his lips. Slowly, slowly, she crept towards his face, puckering her lips. She felt her lips touch his. They were soft, so soft. She had only kissed one other boy in her life, and his lips weren't nearly this soft. Her own lips parted and she felt Luke's lips press against her own. They sat lip locked in a deserted corner of the school library for what seemed like eternity. Claire broke off the kiss, gasping for air. Sudden realization hit her. She had just kissed Luke. She had just KISSED Luke! And Luke had kissed her back... She kept out of her seat, grabbing wildly for her bag and muttering something about "...bathroom. I'm gonna go to the bathroom. Seeya later."
Once there, she locked herself into one of the stalls. Pulling her knees up to her chest perched upon a closed toilet, she sat there and sobbed.
