It had been three years since he left, two years since she returned any letters and one year since she thought he was gone forever. When she saw him standing there it was like she could breathe again, like her heart was whole again. Guilt and anger found its way to her when she remembered the last time they “spoke”.
Someone calling her name yanks her back to the present; Jace is standing further down the beach crossing his arms impatiently. Sighing she makes her way to where he’s standing until a hand grasps her wrist from behind. Spinning around she comes face to face with him, opening her mouth she starts to tell him to let go when Jace yells her name again.
“Coming” she yelled back, turning back around to face Drew.
“So, that’s the jerk huh?” Drew said capturing her eyes with his.
“He’s NOT a jerk!” she hissed
“Oh PLEASE! In the last ten minutes he’s looked at more girls in bikinis than I can count!” he hissed back.
She ripped her hand out from his and glared at him, “Stay OUT of my relationship!! You have no right-”
“I’m just trying to look out for you!” he cut her off, silencing her. She turned away and whispered, “Wow, glad to know you haven’t forgotten about me completely” closing her eyes as she remembered the last thing he said to her and walked away from him but not before she heard him whisper back. “Believe me I tried.”
“Who was that?” questioned Jace when she reached him.
“No one important, just an old friend” her heart broke slightly at her words and her mouth ran dry. A Very old friend she thought to herself.
“I don’t want you to talk to him anymore. Do you hear me?” He threatened, she winced slightly at his tone remembering last time she disobeyed him. By this time they had reached where their cars were parked.
“Bye babe” Jace said pulling her close and placing a cold, emotionless kiss on her lips. She sighed watching his car drive away, it never used to be like this; cold kisses, demands, indifference, slaps-she shook her hear violently at the thoughts as a lonely tear escaped her eye.
Looking up she realised she was almost at her house when a sudden thought struck her, did she make his dinner last night? Quickly scanning over the past day’s events she realised that no, she hadn’t; making up a brief plan and excuse she hurries to her car and drives to Jace’s house.
Silently she opened the door ready to apologise, but what she saw caused the words to catch in her throat and tears to prick her eyes. Realising neither of them had noticed her, she ran back out the door just reaching her car before a sob racked her tiny frame, looking in her pockets for tissues she finds a piece of paper with a number and address scribbled down as more tears came to her eyes. Never in her life could she forget that writing, with her heart clenching painfully and an address she drove through her blurred vision to her destination.
