When she woke up Drew was packing his duffle bag and realisation hit her; the phone call last night, the yelling. She didn’t realise that she was crying until a thumb reached out and whipped her cheek, she wanted to speak but no words could come out. Instead she kissed him with everything she had and he had no hesitation returning the gesture.

They both got dressed after and she helped Drew finish packing, he had to be at the airport at 12pm which meant they had to leave soon.  The drive was silent but she couldn’t speak even if she wanted to, her mind was just too muddled.  It was a long drive but the airport came into view to quick, the seats were cold and hard but Drew lifted her so she was sitting on his lap, whispering soothing words into her ear. She knew that this was his last mission before he left but she couldn’t help but ponder the what ifs.  What if his feelings changed about her? What if he really didn’t want to leave the army? What if he didn’t come back?

His flight was called and she felt a tear slide down her face, turning to face him she buried her head in the crook of his neck.

“I don’t know if I can let you go” she whispered as his hold tightened on her.

“I’m not gone for long, and then I’ll be back. For good” he said, searching her eyes trying to reassure her that everything will be alright.

“Come on man!”

“Yeah let’s go!” Voices were calling out to him now, looking over they saw that all the boys were already there.

“I love you” he said before giving her one final kiss and walking away to the boys. Taking a shaky breath she turned away before spinning around again.

“Drew!” she yelled out, smiling when she saw him turn around.

“I love you!” she yelled chuckling when she heard the boys carry on, nudging him. Smiling she turned and started out the airport when a hand grabbed her shoulder turning her around. No words had the chance to escape her mouth before his crashed down on hers with so much passion it made her knees weak. Coming back to the present the only thing that could be heard was constant wolf whistling and cheers.

“Check your bag when you get on the plane.” She whispered in his ear, winking she waved to the boys and walked out to the car.

He hated the fact that he was leaving her again but took comfort in the fact that it was the last time, the boys where still howling and whistling when he reached them. Chuckling at their constant slaps on the back, but he couldn’t stop thinking about what Sophie had said and to be hones he couldn’t wait to find out.

Time seemed to go slow while he waited for the plane to ascend to grab his duffle bag from the compartment. Flying was never something he liked, time always seemed go slow even though it was faster than any other transport. But what he hated was having all that time to think about what he was leaving and what he was going to arrive to. He was chewing his lip with anticipation and his insides were tight and quivering, finally the seatbelt light went out and he could get out his bag.

The duffel bag contained a letter, everything seemed in slow motion his fingers shook opening the letter and his heart stopped as he read those four words that made his heart stop and breath catch.
