¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Enjoy!
As they walked over, Gajeel remembered a scene like this in a book he'd read recently. "Have you ever read the book In this world, by Lucy Heartfilia?"
Levy looked up at him. "I, uh, yeah. I have. I didn't think guys read those kinds of books."
He smiled and looked down at the street. She was right. But he knew it was becoming popular, so he 'paged through it once or twice'. It was actually his favorite book. It perfectly described high school. It was if an actual high schooler wrote it. He looked over at Levy and her face was scrunched into a ball. "What?"
She looked up at him again. "Well, it's just.... Did you know that the author of that book isn't actually named Lucy Heartfilia? She uses a fake name. Like Mark Twain."
He never thought of that. He knew that it was a possibility with any author, but it never popped to mind. "Weird. How do you know?"
She shrugged. "Because I know the author."
Gajeel gaped. What? Okay, don't be a fanboy. Be casual. Be cool. She could be lying. "So who is it, then?"
"What, you don't believe me?" She didn't care if he did or didn't believe her.
"Well, it's not like a every high schooler from Iowa knows a famous author."
Levy smiled to herself. It's not like every high schooler from Iowa is a famous author. "You don't have to believe me. I don't care."
He knew she was lying if she was being defensive, but she wasn't. And that meant that she really knew him/her/the famous author person. "So what is her real name?"
"That's classified information. I can't trust you with such facts. But I can tell you that she's in high school. And lives in Iowa."
"Really?" Now that was unbelievable. High schoolers don't write novels. They don't have the time. But then he thought of Levy's 63 page document.
"Levy, what's your last name?"
"Why?"
"Well, I need it in case I meet another girl named Levy and get her phone number."
"I doubt that'll happen. But it's Turner. A common last name for a weird first name."
"Hm." He knew. He knew now. She's the author. He'd always had a gift for reading people. She wasn't too hard compared to some people. She was like an open book because she didn't lie. But that's not to say that she wouldn't.
"Levy?"
"Yep?"
"You're the author aren't you?" He knew he was right. It wasn't that kind of thing where he hoped he didn't sound crazy. He knew he wouldn't. But he had been wrong before. He wondered if that would be the case because it was all just so crazy. But he knew something when he knew something. And this was just one of the one things he knew. But it was hard for him to accept.
"What? Am I the author? You think it's me?" She stuttered up at him.
For just a second he thought he could've been wrong. Because Levy hadn't lied to him at all yet, so why start now? But then he realized that she didn't actually lie to him. Not yet anyway. But he also wouldn't be surprised if this was when she did. He held the door for her as they headed into the crisp coffee shop. She walked in with her head down. "It's just a hunch." He shrugged.
"Well,... what are you going to get?" She asked, changing the topic momentarily.
"Ah, I don't know. How about you?" He didn't mind the subject change because he knew it would come back anyways.
"A chai tea latte I think." They ordered, and Gajeel offered to pay.
Levy hesitated. "This isn't a date, is it?"
He frowned down at her. "No. I have a girlfriend, remember?"
She nodded. "Right. Of course. She's... a lucky girl.. I guess."
He laughed. "I'm that bad?"
She smiled. "No. You're actually alright for being a popular. You aren't as obnoxious or loud as I thought you'd be. No offense, but most of the stereotypes are true."
He nodded. "I know. It's kind of a shame."
"So why are you different then?"
"Chai for Levy!"
Levy picked up her drink, and they waited by the counter for Gajeel's.
He shrugged. "I just-"
"Pumpkin latte for Gajeel!" Says Mira, one of Levy's friends. She didn't realize she worked here. Mira looked at Levy and said hi. Gajeel thanked her, and as he turned away, Mira wiggled her eyebrows at Levy, who rolled her eyes. They weren't really friends. But they both knew a pretty boy when they saw one. They sat at the same lunch table. But they didn't really ever talk to each other. They sat at the table of quiet outcasts.
When Levy caught up to Gajeel, she saw him smiling.
"What?"
"I know you girls think you're so secretive." He laughed, and she blushed.
"You boys think you're so cool."
He just laughed. "Well, we sure try."
Levy started laughing too, despite herself.
When they were done and were walking silently back to the park, Gajeel turned serious again. "But you are the author though, right?"
Levy took a sip of her latte, thinking about what she was going to say next. "What makes you think so?"
He smiled. Gajeel was positive that it was her. He just needed Levy to say it. "I know it's you, Levy. I just wanna hear you say it."
Levy thought long and hard. He seemed sure of himself, and she knew she couldn't make him doubt himself. But she also couldn't trust him not to tell anyone. At the same time though, she did trust him; even after only one day. So instead she just smiled at the sidewalk. "Maybe I am."
Gajeel smiled too. "Maybe."
