The mechanic laughed,
"I'm just kidding, calm down, They are both fine, just need a few repairs.
Ben felt like he wanted to shoot the mechanic.
"Don't joke about that, you had me scared half to death!"
The mechanic just rolled his eyes and set to work,
Ben and Jeremy went over to the mess hall to get some lunch.
-------------------
Both Ben and Jeremy got some food and sat down at a table, many of the men were staring at them as most of them knew their responsibilities at what they are protecting.
"So" Ben started his voice slightly muffled as he had a bit of food left in his voice, "Think we can get them home in one piece?"
Jeremy sighed, "I hope so, it would probably be catastrophic if we couldn't."
Ben looked at him, "Anyway Jeremy, I was told we would land at Seoul to refuel and prepare, it's not going to be easy, considering we are already at war with Russia, this might start World War 3 but it's a direct order from the Prime Minister that we must get the two back home before things get worse."
Jeremy put on a focused face.
"You're right."
The CO walked over to the two men.
"Everything alright, Gentleman?"
"Yeah, We're good," Ben replied.
"That's good to hear, Anyway just to let you know the two 'aircraft' have been repaired and have woken up, I would guess you would know what Ember did when he found out Dusty was ok.
Jeremy scoffed, "Do we want to know?"
Ben rolled his eyes, "Let me guess, she 'hugged him' or something."
The CO laughed a little, "Yep,"
Jeremy scoffed again, "That plane always makes me question my reality."
Ben just gave Jeremy a bit of a 'really' look.
"Is someone jealous?" Ben joked.
Jeremy looked at him in shock.
"Wha-No, Do you really think I would like a sentient plane because if you do, that's really messed up."
Ben continued giving the really look.
"With the way your mind works, I wouldn't be really surprised if you did" Ben teased.
Jeremy rolled his eyes,
"Whatever."
----------
Ben and Jeremy returned to the hanger where Dusty and Ember were both waiting.
"You two all good?" Ben asked.
Dusty looked over at him, "Yeah, We're fine what happened."
Jeremy replied, "We went after you as we saw you two take off......on your own, I managed to pick you two up on my radar but when we reached it you were not there so when we looked down we saw you both had crashed, in a field and were being closed on by the Russians, Ben managed to take them out but then soon after we had landed and got to you the police came and then we talked them out of it and they left and we got you back....in a nutshell that's what happened."
Ember looked down slightly, "Yeah, we're sorry for going out, it was my fault, I was the one who asked to fly, I just wanted to get off the ground and not be stuck here."
Ben looked over to her, "It's fine but at least just tell us next time, if we hadn't of noticed you going out, I wouldn't want to think what would have happened to the both of you, anyway do you remember anything that happened before the crash."
Dusty froze and thought for a moment, "Well, we were just flying as normal but we were dazzled by this light, I think it was a helicopter but neither of us could tell, if I remember right I think it shot both of us, When we noticed that were in bad shape and our landing gear was broken we had to make a crash landing on a field but when we hit the ground I fell unconscious I think."
Ember cut in, "So did I."
"Ok, That makes a lot more sense now," Ben commented.
----------------
The sun was beginning to set over the base, Some of the burns on the buildings from the bombings a few days ago were reflecting off the sunlight, all the debris that was left from the battle had been cleared, it had just been mentioned in the news.
Ben couldn't help but think of his family at home who he hadn't seen for months, he hoped they were ok, there had been reports of attacks in other parts of the country, one of them being near his hometown.
"You alright Ben?" Jeremy asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine, Just thinking about my family back at home." He replied.
Jeremy looked over to his Flying Officer rank slide on his shoulder,
"Y'know, When I got this job and I got this rank, I thought I had achieved my dreams and would be able to do the best I could do, Peform in air shows, maybe join the red arrows or maybe even be lucky enough to fly a Spitfire or Hurricane during a show but all that's gone, Thanks to these two coming in we now have to kill other people, I know their the enemy and all but they are still innocents just following orders, they had the same dream as us and we are ending their lives."
Ben looked over at him,
"I see what you mean but we are just following orders too."
The CO walked in to see them again.
"Get some rest, We are deploying to North Korea first thing in the morning."
Ben and Jeremy froze and looked at him.
"What, Now, I thought it was like 2 weeks?" Ben asked confused.
"It was but North Korea has already found out somehow and is preparing, we need to get there before they fully prepare."
"Do Dusty and Ember know?" Asked Jeremy.
"Yes, they know, They seemed excited but scared at the same time." The CO remarked.
"Understandable, At least they will hopefully get home earlier than expected, as long as they don't get shot down."
The CO looked to them,
"They'll stay above clouds where they can't be seen so they shouldn't be shot down as long as they stay out of sight."
The CO walked out of the room and Ben and Jeremy called it a day and went to bed.
