A week later
“Samara if you aren't ready by the time Carlos gets here, I'm leaving you,” I said with a shake of my head. “It's football game, no one is going to be paying attention to how you look.”
“And they don't have to,” she said. “I'm doing this solely for me.”
“Right,” I said, rolling my eyes. There was a knock at the door and I smiled. “Looks like you're going alone.”
“That's not fair,” she said tweaking the hat on her head again. “I swear it's like you guys can read each others minds or something. He has the most ridiculously good timing.”
“No mind reading,” I said with a laugh as I got up to answer the door. “He's just naturally that good.”
“Naturally good at annoying timing,” she mumbled and I shook my head. Opening the door, I was expecting to find Carlos but instead found someone who made my eyes widen.
“Hello Jessie.”
“Emmett!” I couldn't help but exclaim as I hugged him.
“I'm a little jealous that I don't get these welcomings,” I heard Carlos say and looked to the side to see him leaning against the wall with a smile.
“I'm sure your welcomings are a little more enthusiastic,” Emmett said with a smile of his own.
“They are,” I said. “He's just baiting me.”
“Baiting you?” Carlos said in mock innocence as he turned to me. “Baiting you for what?”
“So Emmett,” I said, ignoring Carlos' question. “Why am I the last one to find out that you're here?”
“Because you obviously still haven't grasped the concept of the word 'surprise',” he said with a laugh. “Besides, I didn't even know I was coming until a few days ago.”
“But you knew this whole time,” I said, turning to Carlos.
“Of course,” he shrugged. “Where else was he going to stay this weekend?”
“You're staying the whole weekend?” I asked, turning back to Emmett. “That's great!”
“Isn't it though?” Emmett said with a wink and I laughed. Just then Samara came out of our room behind me.
“I thought you were leaving as soon as Carlos got here?” she asked me before noticing Emmett in front of us. She assessed Emmett before giving him a smile and her full attention. “Who's the hottie?”
Emmett laughed and Carlos and I exchanged a look. “This is our friend from back home,” Carlos said.
“Samara this is Emmett,” I said. “Emmett, this is my roommate Samara.”
“I've heard a lot about you,” Emmett said with a smile and I gave him a look that made him laugh.
“Well, can't say the same about you,” Samara replied, pointedly looking at me and Carlos.
“Shame,” Emmett said with a shake of his head in mock disappointment.
Samara looked at Emmett then Carlos before turning to me. “Seriously, what is in the water where you're from?” she asked. “Because damn you have some hotties there.” This time all three of us laughed at her.
