I'ᗰwalking home from the store, mom had asked me to buy milk since we ran out yesterday.
It was late at night, the only lights available were coming from the street lamps lining the sidewalk, the only noises seemed to be my footsteps, crickets chirping as they usually do and faint car sounds on the highway in the distance.
All shops are closed, mainly because of the late hour, but also out of fear of the evil taking over the world piece by piece.
The evil being vampires.
Scientists had caused this 'evil'. They took in human children from families in exchange for money, they messed with the DNA of these poor children in hopes to come up with the solution on brining the dead back to life.
According to the reports, when the children started to transition to vampires, they assumed this was them becoming the living dead and continued to feed into the transition until it spun out of control and all the vampires escaped, attacking people outside the lab, taking over slowly.
They're turning the world into their pet, a leash made out of money and power strung around the worlds neck. They're first attacking the poor humans, and slowly moving to the rich.
My town so far has made it through strong, our buildings haven't been destroyed- nor has anyone been taken.
However my family lives in constant fear because- as a poor family unit, it's possible that soon, we will have to give into one of these beings.
My phone rings in my pocket and I stop walking, looking at the name on the screen. 'мoм' is what it read, I answer and place the phone to my ear. "Hello?" I say, "(Y/N), please hurry home. It's urgent." She responds in an anxious tone and hangs up before I can say anything else.
I put my phone back in my pocket and run home.
When I walk in the house, I see my mom pacing back and forth in the living room, my dad on the couch with one leg crossed over the other, lightly tapping his foot. He looked less worried than mom but not completely emotionless.
"Mom?" I call lightly as I shut the door, putting the milk on the table.
My words catch both my parents attention as I walk to the living room.
"(Y/N), we're so sorry (Y/N), but we just can't- " My mom starts rambling and my dad cuts her off.
"(Y/N), to put it short, you've been sold to a vampire." His voice wavers with his words and I choke on my air.
