Liz smiled as she grabbed a towel from the closet. She shoved it into a small backpack, along with sunscreen, sunglasses, a water bottle, and her phone (In a waterproof case of course). She was wearing a white two piece and her hair was tied up in a ponytail.
There was a knock on the front door and Liz grabbed the bag and ran to answer it.
Jerry poked his head out of the kitchen with a confused look on his face.
"Just my friends! We're going to the pool!" Liz told him, pulling the door open.
Jerry nodded and went back into the kitchen.
"Hey Liz!" Mark said.
"Hey Mark! Hey Ethan!" Liz greeted. "You guys ready?"
Ethan nodded and they began to walk to the pool.
"I think Tyler said he and Kathryn are going to be there." Mark said.
"Woah, really?" Ethan asked.
"Who are Tyler and Kathryn?" Liz asked.
"Our friends from school." Ethan told her.
"Yep! Tyler is kinda scary at first, but he's really sweet once you get to know him." Mark explained.
"And Kathryn is just a friendly person in general. You two would get along so well!" Ethan added.
"They seem like nice people!" Liz said.
Ethan nodded in agreement. "Yeah they really are."
By now the pool was in view.
"Race ya to the gate!!" Mark yelled, dashing off.
"Wait!" Ethan yelled, hurrying to catch up with him. He grabbed Liz's hand. "Come on Liz!"
Liz blushed slightly, but laughed as Ethan dragged her along. Mark ended up beating them there.
"Cheater!" Liz cried, panting from running.
"Yeah, you gave us no warning!" Ethan added with a laugh.
Mark scoffed. "You guys are just sore losers."
Liz rolled her eyes. "Whatever." She said with a smile.
Someone called Mark's name from inside the gate. They all turned to see a tall boy with brown curly hair and red swim trunks.
Mark opened the gate and everyone walked in. "Hey Tyler!" He said to the curly haired boy.
"Hey Mark! 'Sup Ethan!" Tyler said. He turned to face Liz, who was standing there awkwardly.
"Who's this?" He asked.
"This is Liz! She just moved here from South Carolina." Ethan told him.
"Welcome to Maine." He said, somewhat flatly.
Then a girl with long black hair ran over. "Hey Mark! Hey Ethan! Hey person I don't know!" She said, excitedly.
"I'm Liz! I just moved here." Liz said, introducing herself.
The girl squealed. "I'm Kathryn! I like dogs, the color blue, and pistachio ice cream!"
Liz laughed. She liked Kathryn already, with her hyper attitude and her energy. Tyler scared her a bit. He was tall, kinda scary looking, and seemed to not like her that much. She shrugged it off as Mark suggested they actually go in the pool.
Everyone agreed and Mark took a running leap into the water. Liz was hesitant. She wasn't much of a swimmer. She could swim, but she wasn't very good at it.
In her train of thought, Liz didn't realize that Ethan was calling her name.
"Liz!"
She snapped out of her thoughts and turned to face Ethan.
"Yeah?"
"You okay?" He asked.
"Oh, yeah! Just zoned out a little bit."
"Oh okay. I was asking if you wanted to go in the water."
"Um, maybe? I'm not sure." She replied, timidly.
Ethan raised an eyebrow and smirked.
"What's that look for?"
Ethan said nothing, and picked her up bridal style before throwing her into the pool.
Liz screeched and plugged her nose as she was submerged. She popped back up to the surface a second later.
"Ethan Nestor, you are DEAD!" She yelled, pulling herself out of the pool and running towards Ethan.
He laughed and ran away from her, ignoring the lifeguard whistling at them. Liz grabbed his arm to stop him, and shoved him to get him into the pool. He didn't budge though, and stood his ground.
Finally, he gave up and let her shove him into the pool, but not before grabbing her arm and taking her with him. The two began laughing when their heads come back up.
"Jerk!" Liz cried jokingly, splashing water at him.
Ethan smiled and splashed water back at her. "You really wanna do that?"
"Yep!"
The two got into a splashing fight that lasted a solid five minutes. The whole time they were laughing and yelling.
Tyler, and Kathryn looked over at them.
"They aren't dating, right?"
"Don't think so. They would make a great couple, though!" Kathryn cried.
"I guess." Tyler said.
"Don't be a grump, Ty Ty!" Kathryn said, giving him a slight shove.
"Don't call me that, Kathryn!" Tyler snapped.
Kathryn looked hurt for a second, but brushed it off and shrugged.
"Guys, I bought food!" Mark called from the patio.
Ethan and Liz looked at each other before trampling each other to get out of the pool.
Kathryn let out a whoop and waded off to the stairs.
Tyler followed, and they sat down on some lawn chairs to eat.
"So. South Carolina, huh?" Tyler asked Liz, taking a bite out of his pizza.
Liz nodded. "Yep! It's really nice there! Palm trees, beaches, all that jazz."
"Sounds beautiful!" Kathryn said through a mouthful of fries.
"It is." Liz confirmed.
"You like Maine so far?" Mark asked.
"Yeah, I mean it seems pretty nice so far. I'm excited for winter though!"
"Really? The winters here are freezing though!" Ethan cried.
Liz giggled a bit. "I know! I'm so excited for the snow! South Carolina doesn't get much." (I actually have no idea if that's true. I've never been to South Carolina, and I'm too lazy to look it up whoops)
"The winters here last for a while so be prepared." Mark said with an eye roll.
The group finished their food and everyone went back into the pool. Liz was about to go in when Ethan pulled her aside for a moment.
"Hey, Liz? I'm really glad you moved in." He told her.
"Y-You are?" Liz asked.
Ethan nodded. "You're a really nice person."
With that he walked off into the pool. Liz stood there for a moment. A feeling she hadn't felt in a while blossomed in her chest.
Love.
