The weeks dragged on until it was finally October. Homecoming was right around the corner. Liz wasn't sure if she wanted to go or not. That is, until Kathryn called and invited her to go dress shopping with her and Amy Nelson.

"I actually was debating whether I should go or not." Liz said, putting the call on speaker phone while she did laundry.

"You HAVE to go!" Kat said, excitedly on the other line. "It's always a good time! Tyler, Mark, and Ethan are going too!"

Liz was quiet for a moment before she replied. "I look horrible in dresses though..."

"No worries! Amy can help out! She's a fashion expert!" Kat told her. "She also works at Promposal, that one really cute dress store in the mall!"

Liz sighed. Seemed like she didn't have much of a choice...

"fine, I'll go..." She muttered.

"Yes!!" Kat cried. Liz couldn't see her, but she knew she was pumping her fists in the air.

"When are we going dress shopping?" Liz asked.

"Tomorrow after school!" Kat said. "Is that okay?"

"Yeah! I'll be able to make it." Liz replied.

They said goodbye to each other before hanging up.

Liz continued with her laundry until there was a knock at her room door and her dad walked in.

"Hey Sweets." He said.

"Hey Dad." Liz responded. "What's up?"

Jerry sat on Liz's desk chair and sighed. "I have some bad news."

Liz shuddered. The last bad news he told her was about their move to Maine.

"What is it?" She questioned, eventually.

"I have a business trip coming up in two days. I'll be gone from Wednesday to Sunday." Jerry told her, pushing his glasses up further on his nose.

"But, my homecoming dance is on Friday!" Liz cried.

"I'm sorry Sweets. I'll make it up to you when I get back, okay?" He told her.

"Okay..." Liz mumbled.

"I heard you talking about getting a dress with your friends." Jerry said, cracking a smile.

Liz smiled back, before nodding. "With Amy and Kat."

"I'll get you some money today. Will three hundred dollars be enough?"

Liz nodded again. "Plenty."

"Then give me the change. But buy something nice. Impress that boy that you like. Ethan was his name, right?"

Liz's face went bright red. "I don't like him! I-I Mean, I like him, but I don't like him like that!" She sputtered out.

Jerry chuckled. "I see the way you look at him. And don't think I didn't see him giving you a piggy back ride down the road on the first day of school."

"I, um... I don't know... I mean he's really cute and funny and has the most adorable smile ..." Liz stopped as she realized what she was saying and buried her face in her hands.

Jerry laughed. "I'll let you get back to your laundry. I'm going to run out to the grocery store and get the money for your dress."

Liz smiled. "Thanks Dad."

Jerry nodded and left the room.

"So, when are you gonna do it?" Mark asked Ethan. They were at his house playing video games.

"Do what?" Ethan asked, focused on the T.V. screen, fingers clicking furiously at the Xbox controller's buttons.

"Ya know, ask Liz to Homecoming?" Mark said, pausing the game.

Ethan's face turned red. "Liz?"

Mark nodded, grinning. "I know you like her!"

"Y-yeah! As a friend!!"

"We all know that's a lie." Mark said.

Ethan sighed. "Fine... Maybe I do. How do I ask her then?"

"I don't know. I'm gonna ask Amy if she wants to go. Asking in special ways and shit like that is way too prom-ey."

Ethan glanced out the window at Liz's house.

"I guess I'll ask her tomorrow on the way to school." He said.

"Next thing you know, you'll be getting married with her!" Mark joked.

"Shut the fuck up!" Ethan cried.

Mark laughed and they resumed their game.
