Chapter 28

~Kol's P.O.V~

   I walked outside as Crystal ran from out of the woods. I smiled as she shook her fur off. She spotted my and came up to me. I forgot how big she was, she towered over me. Her eyes glowed a bright green, she was happy to shift. She bowed her head and I ran a hand through her soft fur.

  "Kol, we have a problem! Come now!" Taylor yelled from inside the house. I glanced at the house then back to my younger sister, "come on."  I ran inside and Crystal followed. "Woah what the hell is that?" Ian explained growling at Crystal. She snarled and roared at him. "Mommy!" Dylan says running to her. And he had a tail, a monkey tail. Crystal made a smile like face and purred. "That thing is Crystal?" She growled at him again before laying down on the floor. Dylan laughed and climbed on her back. There was a knock on the door and we all turned to see Derek leaning on the door.

~Crystal's P.O.V~

  I smiled as Dylan climbed onto my back. There was a knock on the door and I turned to see a confused and angry Derek. Uh oh. Why didn't she tell me. He thought to himself. Dylan got off of me and ran to Derek. Who was still staring at me. I shook my fur again then left the room.

  I shifted into my human form and got dressed quickly. I knew I was in trouble and the engagement was probably gonna be off. I looked at myself in the mirror and bit my lip, playing with my ring. Please don't call it off.

I walked back in the room and saw that Derek was talking to Dylan about something. "Derek," I choked, "please don't be mad." He walked over to me, "how can I not be angry Crystal. No other Spring Hero that I know turns into a big ass cat like you. What the hell!" "I know bu-." "But nothing Crys you should've told me." "Derek please let me explain-." "Crystal there's nothing to explain. What's wrong with you."

  "I'm weird! Ok I get it. No other Spring Hero has shifted like me. I can turn into a huge ass cheetah. A killing machine. Why do you think  I hide? Make myself unknown. Because I'm a freak of nature! I haven't shifted in 3 years, I learned control. Because I've wanted to be normal like the rest of my kind. But it hurts, because I'm not. Pain is the only way to keep myself grounded."

  "Mommy?" Dylan whispered tugging in my shorts. I gave him a small smile and picked him up. "Here, I don't think I deserve it," I said before sliding off my engagement ring and putting it in Derek's hand. I walked past him and walked up stairs. I miss my babies. I put Dylan down and hesitated to walk up the stairs, to my parents floor. I take a deep relaxing breath and walk calmly up the stairs. I walk past the first room where my dad was sitting on a chair, but I stopped walking and turned around and walked in the room, I thought I saw someone else in there. And boy was I right.

~Derek's P.O.V.~

    I stood there with the engagement ring in my hand. I growl and close my hands making fist and breaking the ring. Screw the mating bond. I can't be mates with that thing. "That thing is my sister Hale. I'd watch what I was saying if I were you." Kol hisses flashing his eyes at me. "Why didn't she tell me," I say through my teeth. "Cause she wanted a chance to be normal." "Derek?", I heard Crystal's voice chime. I turned to see Autumn standing at the door way with shy eyes. "Can we, uh talk for a sec." She says soft before walking outside.

  I shake my head and followed her outside. She walked further in the woods before stopping and taking a deep breath. Then she turned to face me, "I'm sorry that my sister is such a freak." I look at her and nod her head.

    "She has always been the black sheep of the family. You could tell that she was different since we were born. Everyone else has either hazel or brown eyes but she has gold and silver eyes. That's the only difference between us. Our eyes. And well our personalities. I didn't really do much when I was 3 years old, but Crystal did. She was always in pain, she always caused it too. When I was taken they made sure I watched my family. Especially Crystal, when our parents died she went into a depression. She wouldn't talk, eat, or sleep. Then when she turned 13 she shifted. That's when there was more Springs around. When they saw Crystal turn into that giant beast they locked her up. Kol got her out and thought her control. But sometimes it wasn't enough so she cut herself. She lost control once and almost killed someone but she stopped herself by clawing her heart. Kol thought she was dead but somehow she survived. Ever since she hasn't shifted."

  That was Crystal? The real Crystal, not the one I knew. Everything that she said was a lie. She didn't even tell me that she cut. "I'm sorry I was the one to tell you Derek," Autumn apologized before turning towards the house. "Autumn wait." I said grabbing her arm. What am I doing? "Yeah?" I pulled her closer to me and kissed her.

~Crystal's P.O.V.~

  "Daddy?" I asked grabbing his attention away from our... guest? "Crystal we were just talking about you," my dad said with a proud smile. My dad was pretty much the only one who thought me shifting was a gift. He always treated me like a princess and said I was born for 'greatness'. The guy who was talking to my dad turned to face me and I instantly recognized him. "Leo!" I smiled jumping into his arms. Leo was my old best friend but he moved away when we were 13. "Hey Chrisy," he says hugging me. "What are you doing here?" I asked as my smile continued to grow. "Well you dad called me and said that you were like me." He stepped back and took a contract lens out of his eye, then looked at me. His eyes were gold and silver like mines. Oh my cheese and crackers. I gasped and hugged him crying.

  "Well that wasn't the reaction that I was expecting, why are you crying?" My dad asks as I pulled away from him. "I- I thought that I was alone." "Shh, you're never alone." He says pulling me into another hug. I wonder if he's ever been through the same things I've been. "Probably, if you mean the bullies, being called weird, all the strange looks people give you. I know how that feels, but you're really brave. I heard about you killing the Cursers." "I had help from my brother and friend." We both pulled away and he wiped the rest of the tears off of my face. I smiled as I got an idea. Leo smiled back and he grabbed my hand.

  "See you later dad! " I called as we ran out the door.

  "Ok let's see what I'm working with here." "What?" He looked at me, his golden eyes burning brightly in the night. "Shift Crystal." And for the first time I actually wanted to shift. I smirked wanting to show off. I jumped in the air and shift only to land on my paws. "A cheetah nice." He took out his shirt showing glorious abs and shifted.

A lion, nice

  He was a little taller than me and his eyes glowed green same as me. He gave me a look that looked like a smile. And I returned it. I brushed against him feeling his fur and mane. Then I heard something. Curiously I followed the sound. I walked deeper into the woods and saw Derek kissing Autumn. I growled and pounced on Autumn. She screamed and looked at me, "Crystal what the hell is your problem!" I growled at her and started to circle her. Leo came running in and growling. And Derek tackled him. Leo growled and bit Derek's shoulder and Derek punched him in the nose.

  Kol came and broke the fight up. "Shift back now," he commanded angrily. I bowed my head Kol never got mad at me. I went into the bushes and shifted back to my human form. I put the same clothes I had on and went into the house. I sat on the couch as Leo, Kol, and Douche bag- I mean Derek came inside. "Sorry Leo I honestly didn't know that that was you." Kol apologized as Leo snapped his nose into place. "It's fine. So this is the douche bag of mate Chrisy?" "Yup my now ex mate." "Wait hold up you two talk. We'll go catch up Leo." Kol said pushing Derek towards me, "don't screw this up." He whispered to Derek before him and Leo left.
