I assume all of us were taught how to capitalize words back in first grade. However, thanks to texting, many of us have neglected capitalization.
First of all, names are all capitalized. Most people do this and when they don't, it's usually a typo.
Place names are also capitalized. These include countries, cities, towns, buildings, etc.
The most important thing to capitalize is the word "I". It is also the word most often left uncapitalized. This is fine while you're texting a friend, but if you forget to capitalize it in your story, or any other professional document, you can end up sounding uneducated.
