It's very important when writing to avoid shortening words. I haven't seen this mistake made too often but it's important not to make it. Thanks to texting, people have found ways of saying what they want with as few letters as possible. However, when writing a story, it's important to say what you mean with all the words necessary, sometimes with even more.
