The Summers family come from a long line of Hunters, just like the Argents. But unlike the Argents their code is to only kill the evil creatures that go bump in the night. The Summers family has been in Beacon Hills for a long time, they never went after the Hale's because they aren't dangerous. Gray and Jackson have been friends for years and Gray is out as gay. You can cast whoever as his parents, he has a little sister and brother who are twins (can cast whoever), his family is really important to him and he loves his friends. 

I did get the surname Summers from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, just an FYI
