Jungkook's POV:

I tried to ignore the footsteps echoing through the halls, thinking that I was just imagining it...
I moved off the couch without waking up Yoongi and ventured down the long hallway. I heard a door open and heavy breathing from close by. I peeked around the hallway into the main room that housed half of the survivors to catch Jimin holding someone up.
The dark made it hard to pinpoint the exact situation, so I walked closer, and my heart went into panic mode.
"Jimin?!", I called out to see him stop with the injured man in his grasp.
"I'm..helping him..", he replied while setting the man down onto the blanket that Jimin occupied before.
"He's...been bitten", I tried to calm my voice down, but my heart was far from it.
"Can't we heal him? He's still human right?", Jimin felt the man's forehead.
"It's too late Jimin...", I bent down to the man to feel his forehead also.
"But...he's——"
"I'm sorry...once he turns...we'll be in danger!", I said while in the midst of running back to my room.
I ran in the room to grab the weapon that Namjoon gave me earlier to see Yoongi struggling to get up from the couch.
"Where are you going Jungkook?", Yoongi asked, wiping his sleepy eyes.
"We have a slight problem, but I can handle it..", I replied while also grabbing the first aid kit.
"It doesn't sound like a slight problem to me", Yoongi headed towards the door.
"DON'T GO OUT THERE!", I yelled.
"You think I'm weak don't you?", Yoongi looked back and folded his slender arms.
"No...it's just..not something for you to witness", I left with the last words and ran back to the main room. Everyone else was already awake from their slumber, disturbed by the man wincing in pain.
"Get him out!", a woman with a blonde ponytail scooted her things the farthest away from the man.
As soon as I laid the first aid kit on the ground, Jimin went through it to find a bandage to wrap the man's bite wound on his upper arm.
"Why did you bring a gun?", Jimin asked while wrapping the bandage.
"Just in case...", I muttered.
"Put pressure on the wound!", I tell him as the man whimpered in pain.
After countless hours of Jimin pressing against the wound, he eventually fell asleep on the unclean floor. I continued to keep an eye on the man that started to fall asleep minutes after Jimin. His bite wound leaked out blood until the bandage turned dark red. I placed my gun down to take the roll of bandages to switch out.
As I wrapped the new bandage around the man's arm, I heard Jimin muttering in his sleep while holding himself.
"Dad...you can make it..."
"Please come back to us...you can't be dead", tears slipped down to his puffy cheeks.
"Hey Jimin...", I whispered as I softly nudged him in the shoulder.
"Hmm?", he replied with his eyes still closed.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine...", he wiped his tears and sits up to look at the sleeping man.
"I can't watch you suffer...", I scooted the gun close to my thigh.
"How did you—"
"You talk in your sleep...", I responded as I watched the bite wound seep out more blood.
"You should go to sleep", Jimin offered.
"No..I'll keep watch...", I patted the floor to motion for him to sleep.
Jimin doesn't bother to reject my offer as he gently laid his head down on the ground.

Soon enough, sleep threatened to take over me as my body became stiff from sitting on the floor. My eyelids opened and closed repeatedly; there was nothing to keep me from falling asleep. I laid beside Jimin, listening to the signals that echoed throughout my body.
"I can't sleep..", I whispered half awake.

First was darkness...

Then, sprouted a shape that soon sculpted into a maple tree..
But it wasn't the only shape in the image..
A familiar shape stood by the clear maple tree with a gentle smile and a friendly wave that I've known for all my life.
"Was it waving at me?", I asked myself as the figure slowly came into focus.
From her green eyes to her brown hair, everything became clear.
"Mom!", I yelled out to her.
Her smile turned upside down at my voice, and her figure washed away like paint on a wet canvas. I only then notice that the other trees had also disappeared except for the one maple tree standing over me.
"Get out of here!", said a stern voice from the distance.

So I ran through what supposedly was the ground yet there was no grass. I kept running until my body was impacted by a concrete wall.
I woke up with a start to find my heart going faster than normal.
"Jungkook!?", I felt a hand on the small of my back.
"I'm fine...just a bad dream", I rubbed the oncoming headache while I caught glances at the sleeping man.
An hour later, Namjoon came into the room with wrinkles in his shirt, "What's going on?"
Jimin looked over at me before averting his eyes to the man that laid asleep.
"Well..we decided to help this injured man...", I responded with a smile.
"You should know how dangerous infected ones can be", Namjoon walked back into his room.
A minute later, Namjoon came into the main room with his gun in his hands, "He poses as a threat; we have to eliminate him now."
Jimin shielded the sleeping man, "Namjoon, isn't there another option?", I asked frantically.
"The other option is to let him die outside...", he raised the gun, not even phased by the heavy weight.
"Please don't!", Jimin began to cry.
"Jimin...he might kill us..", I let myself get close to Jimin, enough to hug him gently.
"But he's still human!", Jimin proclaimed as the tears kept falling down to the mountain of my shoulders.
"We don't know when he will turn, what if we can't control him?", I held Jimin tighter.
I pressed Jimin even closer to my body, letting his puffy face fall into the crook of my shoulder.
"I know it's cruel...we need to survive..", I placed my hand on top of his head to comfort him.
Namjoon aimed the gun at the man, "Wait don't kill me!", the injured man said in fear.
"I have to...I have no choice", he aimed for the forehead and the trigger went off.
Jimin went limp in my arms as I continued to hug him tighter.
"Jimin?"
I felt Jimin's grip loosen, and he eventually pulled away in silence.
He got up and wiped his remaining tears and didn't spare a glance in no one's direction but the floor.

"Did I make him angry?", I wondered as the sound of Jimin's feet echoed across the floor.
