Later that day, Marshall was in the studio writing and recording a song with producers Dr. Dre and DJ Khalil. Liz Rodrigues, the singer on the track had already recorded her vocals for it. The song was called Survival. It had a rap-rock vibe and he figured that Liz's vocals would fit the song the best. As he was in the middle of doing a verse, he asked Khalil to stop the music.
"What's up, Em?" Khalil asked him.
"Let's take that again. I didn't feel that was hitting too hard." Marshall told him.
"Got you, man." He nodded his head.
He rewinded the music back and allowed Marshall to redo his verse. He continued until he finished and the music stopped. Marshall nodded and took his headphones before walking out of the booth. Dre gave him daps and nodded his head in approval.
"Sounding good in there, man. I'm just glad to see you back in the studio. I remember when you thought about giving up the rap game." Dre told him.
"I know. But man, I'd go crazy without my music. I'm glad to be back in the studio myself, doin' what I love. I definitely got some shit written up and I'm liking what I'm writing." Marshall admitted.
"That's great. I'm glad to see you in a better mindset. How is Alexis doing?"
"She doing good, man. Been killing shit. She just got a big role in a movie and her and Carmen just found this new girl to sign to the label. She got major flow, man. She might just be the next new favorite." Marshall explained.
"Damn, for real? I'll have to work with her and see what she got. I know if you and Alexis co-sign her, she got to be good." Dre admitted.
"Most def." Marshall nodded his head, "I need to talk with Lexi. She's been a 'lil off since we finished our radio interview this morning. I gotta check on wifey and make sure she good."
"Make sure you do that." Dre nodded and looked at his watch, "Look, I gotta get up out of here. But I'll get that beat to you by tomorrow, alright?"
"Alright, man. Thanks for coming down."
Dre gave him a man handshake and left out of the studio. Marshall sat with DJ Khalil to listen to the song and found out what needed to be changed. Marshall advised him on a couple of things to switch up and what to put where to make it sound even better. After a couple more hours, DJ Khalil left the studio and Marshall sat at the soundboard, writing more lyrics in his notebook. He took a break and grabbed his phone, looking through his recents until he found Alexis's name.
He pressed it and waited for her to answer.
"Hello?" She answered.
"What up, sexy? Where your man at?" He joked.
She chuckled, "I don't know. He's somewhere."
"Well, since he left you all alone and shit, why don't you come see me?"
"I don't know, Mr. Eminem. Aren't you busy in the studio? Anybody that knows you knows not to bother you when you're in the zone." She reminded him.
"I stepped out of that zone to call you, didn't I? Just come to the studio. Let me see you. We ain't gotta tell your man." He dropped his voice down a couple of octaves and smirked.
"Fine, fine. I'll be right up."
"See you in a sec."
He hung up the phone and patiently waited for her. A few minutes later, the door opened and Alexis walked in the studio.
"You called, Mr. Mathers?" She asked.
"Yeah, I did." Marshall replied, patting his lap, "Come over here."
