Dominique's POV
"Baby," I shook Veronica's body gently, "sweetheart," I said. She opened her sleepy eyes slowly then turned letting out a groan. "I told you not to go to sleep so late, come on, it's time for school," she groaned again. She picked up her blanket and put it over her face, I sighed and removed the blanket from her whole body and started tickling her, she had no choice but to open up her eyes.
"Mommy, please don't," she said between laughs. I picked her up and twirled her around, "mommy, I'm gonna die," she exaggerated as usual. I put her down on her bed and she sighed.
"Ready for your shower now?" I asked, she nodded her head. "Go brush your teeth," I told her. She got up from her bed still in her pajamas and walked to her bathroom. She started brushing her teeth like I asked, after she was done she walked back out. I called her over and took out her pajamas, "you have to wash your hair today," I said. She hated washing her hair, she said it hurt, I didn't see how.
She has nice, curly, smooth hair, it didn't hurt that bad. What hurt was washing my nappy hair, it actually felt good while you washed it, but combing it out after was the worst. "Only because I have to," she frowned. I picked her up and put her in the shower. I turned the water on and washed her hair and left her to wash her body.
After her shower, I picked out her uniform and she put them on herself, me standing there to make sure she put everything on properly. "All done," she smiled. She looked in the mirror to make sure everything was fine. I brushed her hair and put it in a nice bun. We then walked down the stairs for breakfast.
"Good morning," I greeted everyone. Everyone nodded and mouthed good morning back, Gabriel wasn't here. I haven't seen him since the date, I asked Matteo if it went okay, he said he didn't know since Gabriel simply said he didn't want to talk about it.
"Daddy," Veronica said going to sit on her father's lap. "This Friday is take your child to work day, can I go to work with you, pretty please, please," she said flapping her eyelashes. Matteo shook his head, "please daddy, I promise I won't touch anything," she put her two hands together and pouted her lips.
"Not the pouted lips, sweetheart," Matteo said frowning, "why don't you go to work with your mother?" He asked her, "she works in this nice office and she has a computer," he added.
"Because I went with mommy last year," she said. Matteo looked at me for some type of rescue. I shrugged my shoulder mouthing him a sorry, I couldn't help him with this. Veronica wasn't old enough to understand her father's job and she couldn't go with him. I took a seat and started my breakfast, "daddy!" Veronica yelled frustrated.
"Vee," I called her, "enough yelling, you can't go to work with your dad," I said sternly. She crossed her hands over her chest and frowned.
Gabriel then walked in, he smiled and everyone and kept his eyes on me for a moment or maybe I was just imagining it. "Uncle Gabbie," Veronica said lifting her hands up toward her uncle. Gabriel came and picked her up, "can I go to work with you on Friday?" She asked.
"Um..." Gabriel looked at all of us wondering what to tell her, "no, I'm sorry," he said.
"Why?" She asked.
"Because I have a mean boss, there's a rumor going around that he hates The Little Mermaid, he said if he ever found Ariel, he would take her away so no child could never watch her again," he lied.
"What a monster!" Veronica said. "I do not want to see him, he should be in jail, mommy says monsters belong in jail, why isn't he in jail?" She asked her uncle. Everyone looked at him to see what answer he had for that question.
"He'll be in jail soon," he lied. "No, why don't you go eat your breakfast," he put her down and she ran up to me. She sat on me and drank some orange juice, but ate nothing else. I was glad that she drank something and didn't force anything else on her.
"Let's go, sweetheart, say bye to everyone," I said. I grabbed my bag and waited for her to tell everyone goodbye. She kissed everyone and told them goodbye. I was about to get off my seat when Matteo pulled me towards him and he kissed me hungrily. He never kissed me like that before in front of his family, I pulled away. "What was that for?" I asked him in a whisper.
"Nothing," h shrugged his shoulder. From the corner of my eyes, I could see Gabriel staring at us. He then turned around and sighed, "I'll see you later," he added. I nodded my head and we left.
I put Veronica in her car seat and went inside my car. I put the key in the ignition about to start, but the car wouldn't start. I frowned, now wasn't the time for this to be happening. It was Monday and I was almost always late on Mondays and I did not want to hear my boss' speech. "What's wrong, mommy?" Veronica asked.
"Nothing," I replied turning around and giving her a smile. Come on, I told myself. I got to be optimistic, I twisted the key one more time to start the car, it still didn't start and this time smoke started going up from the hood.
I got out of the car and grabbed Veronica from the back, "what happened?" Matteo asked coming out the house. Behind him was Gabriel, I looked over at the car and he sighed. "Don't worry about it," he said, "I'll call a tow company and get it taken to the garage," I nodded my head. "Now, let's just get you two to start your busy day," he looked down at his watch. He was running late, he wouldn't have time to drop off both Veronica and I and make it on time to his office. "Gabe, you know I love you right? You're my favorite brother," Gabriel frowned.
"I'm your only brother," Gabriel said.
"You never know, mom says dad used to be quite the player back in the day," Gabriel said.
"I see where you get that gene," Matteo laughed and then stopped staring down at his brother.
"Would you mind letting me borrow your car for the day so Dominique can use my car?" He asked nicely. That was not happening, no one drives Gabriel's car other than him. He called it his baby, he doesn't even want people to enter it.
"No," Gabriel said with a straight face, "you're not driving my car," he added.
"Okay fine," Matteo said, "what about Dominique?" He asked, Gabriel, looked over at me as if he was thinking about it. He stared at me longer than was needed. He turned away and shook his head no, "okay, I have to be at work in thirty minutes, can you be their chauffeur for today?" He asked. Gabriel didn't how to answer that question. He ran his hand through his hair and let out a deep breath. "Please?" Matteo asked, "I'll pay you."
"I don't need your money," he said. He ran his hand through his hair again looking at Veronica and I. God, please let him say no. I would prefer to get an Uber than letting him drop me off. I would be stuck in a car with him for more than thirty minutes, I was gonna go crazy. "Fine," he finally let out. Matteo let out a sigh of relief. I put on a smile so I wouldn't worry him.
"Thank you, bro, I'll owe you one," he said.
"You owe me a lot," Gabriel said, Matteo went back inside the house. "Um... we should get going," he said. I nodded my head and we made our way to his car. After getting Veronica in the car and everything, I settled in the passenger side. He then started the car and we made our way out of the parking lot. This was going to be a long awkward ride.
