Scarlett

It was the beginning of yet another week at the Daily Planet, and I had to have the new spread laid out. I work as a multimedia designer, also known as the person who designs whatever the hell Perry assigns me to. I open a blank document, just as someone knocked on my door. I'm grateful for the intrusion, as I honestly have no clue where to start on this project.

"Scar, wanna grab lunch? I'm starving and trying to avoid Perry at the moment." My closest friend, Lois asks me.

I nod, grabbing my purse, "Sure, why's he on your back this time?" I laugh.

"My story's late, but I know there's more information about it, I just have to find it." She says.

"You've got it Lo, you're the best writer I know." I say, locking my door behind us.

As we walk through the busy office, I see my other friend, texting on his phone behind his computer. "Lunch, you coming?" I say, peering at him over the computer. Calum is a great guy and a little attractive, but never anyone I could date. It's never been an awkward friendship either, we've always had the understanding nothing would become of us.

"Why yes of course my ladies!" He exclaims, standing up and bowing. Lois and I crack up, and follow him out of the building.

We headed into Panera, our go-to lunch since it was across the street from the office. Even as a 24 year old woman, I still get grilled cheese and chicken noodle soup every time.

"Perry said a newbie is coming tomorrow, pray I don't have to show him around." Lois says, rolling her eyes.

"Don't worry Lois, we all know I'll have to do it. I'm 'the best with the people'" He says in a mocking voice of Perry. We all laugh in agreement, gaining looks from the group next to us.

As we're throwing away our trash, Lois' dumps her plate, but the bowl rolls backwards and starts to fall towards the tile floor. I look to Calum, who's watching out the window, oblivious to the situation. Without even thinking of the consequences, I bend down and grab the bowl before anything even spilled out of it. I place it into the bin, and look up at Lois.

"Wow, Scar that was a great catch!" She says staring at me in surprise.

My heart feels like it's going to beat out of my chest, and I don't know what to say. I shrug my shoulders, "Great reflexes I guess."

I have a pretty big secret you could say. Only my twin brother knows about it because, well, he's the same way as me. We can move unbelievably fast. I mean, we can move at the speed of light.  He thinks it's a gift, I think it's dangerous and a threat. Barry and I were 19, and we were on the roof of a cilo, listening to a thunderstorm. Yes, I know, not smart. We could see lightning striking the ground off in the distance, so we decided to climb back down. As we were descending the large ladder, lightning struck the ladder, and we fell at least 30 feet. I honestly have no clue how we survived. I remember hitting the ground and blacking out. Once we woke up, I ran back to the house in fear, and got there in less than a few seconds. I didn't even realize until Barry was still all the way across the corn field staring at me in shock. That's when we realized something happened when that lightning bolt hit us. Barry loves it though, he's made himself a suit and he's obsessed with figuring out everything he can do. I, on the other hand, try my best to forget it exists.

The next morning, I woke up late for work. By late, I mean 2 hours late. I threw my hair up, changed into the first thing in my closet, scrubbed my tongue with my toothbrush, and then ran out the door. Super speed comes in handy sometimes.

When I got to work, I was sweating, and my hair was all over the place. "Woah, bad morning?" Lois asks, taking my bag from my hands so I could fix my hair. Walking to my office, I fill her in on how rushed I was. I had just sat down in my chair when I heard the noise I was dreading.

"Allen! Get in here!" The deep voice bellowed. I sighed obnoxiously loud and stepped into his office, right next to mine.

"I don't remember changing your schedule? 9am is 9am! Not 11:10!" He yelled, making sure the entire office could hear.

"Yes sir. I'm really sorry, my alarm was set for PM instead of AM. It won't happen again, I promise." I say, crossing my arms behind my back.

"This is only your first warning, so don't make it a habit. There's a new hire, Clark Kent. Make him feel welcome, and then get to work." He says, shaking his head at me.

"Sir yes sir." I joke, saluting him like a soldier and then walking out. As much as Perry tries to act tough, I can hear him laugh at me once I left.

I ignore his instructions about the new hire, and go right to my office, closing the door behind me. I open the still blank document from yesterday and rub my temples, looking for inspiration. I start to experiment with colors, and then find the perfect layout for the 4th of July paper. I was finally deep in concentration when my door opened unexpectedly.

"Oh my god what what what!" I shout in annoyance. Everyone, even Perry, knows not to bother me when my door is closed.

"Oh no, this isn't Mr. White's office.." A man's voice says in embarrassment. I spin around in my chair and almost choke at the sight of him.

"I don't believe I've met you yet. I'm Clark Kent."
