Scarlett

"Oh you're the new reporter. I'm Scarlett Allen." I say, smiling at him.

He reaches out to shake my hand, and I stand up to be more professional. As our hands touch his body seems to freeze. I can only tell because usually people's bodies are constantly shaking a little, but Clark was rigid. I look up at his eyes briefly, as he does the same thing. I don't know if he was already staring or not, but it was strange. I got a weird vibe.

I pull away, at the speed of a normal person, and flip my hair back over my shoulder. Flicking my eyes back up at him, I notice he's just staring at me, a little confusion etched into his features.

"So, um, what'd you need from Perry? I might be able to help." I say, trying to think of an excuse to look at his face just a little longer.

"I'm supposed to interview Bruce Wayne about his new enterprise, but I don't know if I go alone or what the protocol is. This is my first story." He says, walking to look out the big windows across from my desk.

"Usually reporters go alone, but if it's your first one Perry won't mind if someone tags along." I say, quickly checking him out while his back was to me.

Clark Kent was quite gorgeous. He had broad shoulders, clearing 6 feet tall, had brown/black curly hair, and bright blue eyes. He looked like a tank standing next to me.

"Okay, thanks Scarlett. Who should I ask? I only know a few people." He says, chuckling afterwards. I swear my insides melt. I can hear a southern accent in his voice.

"I'd love to come but I just hit a great spot on this project. Lois and Calum are really nice though, definitely ask one of them."

"Oh alright. It was nice meeting you, see you around." He says, waving at me and closing my door behind him.

Once I hear his footsteps pad away, I fall back in my chair and let out a sigh. Damn this project, I would love to sit in the back of a cab with Clark on the way to Gotham. I didn't notice a ring on his finger, but he might have a girlfriend. I shake the thought of him out of my head, and dive back into the computer screen.

It was almost the end of the day, on a Friday as well. So the office was chatting loudly excited for the weekend. I finally had the layout done, and sent the file to Perry to be reviewed. As the floor slowly started to clear out for the day, I looked into the office and saw Calum at his desk.

I walk over, sitting in the empty chair next to him. "Scarlett, you ready to head out soon?" He asks without looking up from the screen.

"Yeah, I was thinking we could invite that new guy to come with us? He's honestly super hot and I'd like to get to know him." I say, blushing a bit.

Calum stops typing and glances over at me. "Ohhhh, Scar has a litttle crush huh?" He smirks at me.

Just as I am about to make a snotty remark, the elevator dings and reveals Lois and Clark. He was laughing, and was standing quite close to her. I hoped she didn't like him, but I never had a chance to call dibs since I last saw her. Out of the corner of my eye I can see Calum staring at me, both of us thinking the same thing. Oh well, if Lois likes him she's my best friend I couldn't jeopardize that for her. And honestly, who wouldn't want to be with Lois Lane.

"Hey Scar, howdy Calum" She says, heading back to her office.

"Hey Clark, how'd it go?" I ask, as he sits at his desk in front of Calum.

"Not too bad for my first time! We got a lot of information thanks to Lois' intense badgering." He laughs, looking back to where Lois walked into her office. I feel my chest sink a little at his glance, but remind myself that I don't really need to get close to someone right now. Or ever.

Nobody needs to find out about my abilities, and I can't afford to get close to someone and slip up. It makes me angry to think about. I may never be able to have kids or get married because of this stupid "gift". Sure, I've never hit an animal with my car, I never drop anything, and I could catch anything you throw at me. But I don't care about those things if they take away from what makes me normal.

I slam the pen I didn't even know I was holding against the table. Calum jumps in response to the noise, and I notice Clark doesn't even flinch. I flicker my eyes towards him and then storm into my office, slamming the door behind me. The door frame rattles in response. I lean my head back against the wall, and sigh in frustration. I'm not sure what just came over me. Clark probably thinks I'm crazy. I hear a light tapping on my door, and know it's Lois.

She slowly opens the door, peering down at me with her big eyes. "You okay?" She asks, closing the door behind her softly. She's so gentle and sweet, all the time. I nod in response, getting up off the floor.

"Sorry, I don't know what came over me. Work stress I guess. Perry gave me a tough assignment." I say, bullshitting an excuse that she'll believe.

"Well, its Friday, so let's go have a great night out, and drool over Mr. Dreamy." She says, winking at me. I smile at her efforts, and take a deep breath. "You're right, let's go. My place to change?" I ask, and she nods her head excitedly.
