Sweet and Sour

The anxiety of "will he stay?"
Tastes sour on my tongue
Despite the sweet nothings I let loose on it
To prove something I've got is worth staying for
I used to think that as long as Love was around
It became glue and stuck two people together for an undetermined time
I found that love is glue
But it is glue still wet from application,
Easily slipped out of when the other person pushes themselves away
I then thought than honesty was the bonding agent I needed
And I thought for a time that the sharing was equal
"Will he stay" turned sweet with "I hope he stays" at the call of midnight conversations and stolen kisses
At laughter and the warmth of arms wrapped tight
And I poured out the contents of my broken heart
To a boy who had his locked away in fear of pain
Who thought too much with his head
Who's commitment was as strong as tissue used to hold the sea up
The backlash of the waves cracked my heart again
And the sour taste of "will he stay" turned bitter on my tongue
