A promise is a promise, no matter who it's from.

"March 5, 2020

Hey Journal, sorry I haven't written in a while. I just got a chance to write in you since the last one got taken. Christmas wasn't the worse, but it could've been better. The Genius made me spend it with him and then arrested my friends. At least I had them with me. Bestie gave me a camera, Puns gave me a ukulele, and Aro got me a bunch of different journals, they all have a quote on each page.

Now Spring is here. I'm planning on going to a Sugar Shack next week to practice my photography skills. I want to work on different things this year, possibly make new friends, or maybe actually follow my friends' advice and confront The Genius. But I don't want to do that, I'll just end up disappearing, or get a complete memory wipe. The point is I'm scared, and I'm especially scared because I'm certain I knew him before he took over! I just don't know anymore. I'm lost. I need to figure this out. But how?"

Sighing she put her pencil down, thinking becoming more and more draining, but she couldn't stop unless she slept, and even then. Most of her memories filled with blank spaces, yet another side effect.

To her right, a woman pushed a stroller along the sidewalk, the child inside holding a teddy bear close. She used to know why it was called a "teddy bear" but now whenever she researched it everything came up blank. Suddenly realizing her vision got blurry, Shy brought her sweater sleeve to her eyes, it came back damp. The child would never know what it was like to have an identity, they would grow up with nothing but the labels others put on them, and they'd know nothing else.

Wiping the tears away, Shy stood up. Aro and Puns were talking about something within their interests and almost missed their friend's small frame retreating towards the mother and child.

"Hello," the woman turned questioningly to the source of the greeting, a young girl, she couldn't have been much older than 18.

"Hi," she smiled, friendly, but still suspicious of the strange girl.

"I'm sorry for bothering you, I just saw your child and, well, I know this is strange, and probably illegal," she mumbled the last part, "but I was wondering... um."

"What is it?" the mother smiled warmly, nearly causing Shy to cry once more at the memories it brought up.

"Well, after the, uh, the-the-the-the, the incident, how does it work? Y'know, without names."

"Oh," realisation crossed her features. "We, don't give him a name, we call him what we can based on his development."

And with that, she continued, the distance between the two growing steadily faster.

Defeated, Shy returned to her friends. They glanced at her worriedly, as silence enveloped the trio.

"You okay, Shy?" Puns inquired after a few moments.

"Yeah," she looked at them both. "Just drained."

"You know that curiosity can get you into more trouble, right?" Aro pulled her into a hug.

"Yeah, but I have so many questions! I can't help it," she exclaimed, accidentally smacking her friend's face in the process. "Sorry!"

"It's fine," he rubbed his face, chuckling at the blushing girl in his arms. "You didn't hurt me."

"Okay," she whimpered.

"Let's get you home," Puns suggested, observing the dark landscape as night settled in.

"Okay," Shy yawned, she was getting used to the guys acting like her parents by now.
