Hope I don't make anyone cry...

Marius' P.O.V.

“There’s a boy climbing the barricade!” A voice shouted.

I ran out after Enjolras. I recognized the boy…EPONINE! “Don’t shoot!” I ran over and she smiled at me. I led over to a more secluded area of the barricade so we could talk. “Good god what are you doing?” I asked and gave her a strict look. “’Ponine have you no fear.” Then I remembered. “Have you seen my beloved, why have you come back here?” Her smile faded at my words.

“Took the letter like you said. I met her father at the door, he said he would give it-“ Her face twisted into pain. “I don’t think I can stand anymore.” She dropped to the ground and I went along with her, she looked in pain but there were no wounds. I noticed a bit of blood hidden by the hat in her hair.

“Eponine what’s wrong? There’s something wet upon your hair.” I looked at my fingers which were covered with blood from touching the blood in her hair. “Eponine, you’re hurt. You need some help.” I proceeded to push her jacket out of the way. I sat there shocked at the sight of blood that stained her shirt. “Oh god, it’s everywhere.” I pulled her closer and put my hand on the wound.

“Don’t you fret, Monsieur Marius, I don’t feel any pain.” The way she was shaking told me otherwise. “A little fall of rain can hardly hurt me now. You’re here, that’s all I need to know.” She shut her eyes and leaned into me. “And you will keep me safe. And you will keep me close. And rain will make the flowers grow-“ She cut herself off and grabbed my sleeve soaking it with a blood handprint.

“But you will live ‘Ponine.” I looked up to the sky. “Dear god above,” I cried out. “If only I could heal your wounds with words of love.” I kept my hand on her wound hoping somehow my words would heal her wounds.

“Just hold me now and let it be.” She smiled and looked up at me. “Shelter me. Comfort me-“ She cut herself off again and coughed in pain. I grabbed her shoulder and pulled her more towards me.

“You would live a hundred years, if I could show you how.” I wiped away a tear quickly. “I won’t desert you now!” I proclaimed.

“The rain can’t hurt me now. This rain will wash away what’s past.” She said it so softly and I felt my heart crack into a thousand pieces. “And you will keep me safe. And you will keep me close; I’ll sleep in your embrace at last.” I wanted to tell it was going to be fine but she cut me off. “The rain that brings you here is heaven blessed.” She reached her hand out but I grabbed her wrist and pulled it back to her chest. “The skies begin to clear and I’m at rest. A breath away from where you are. I’ve come home from so far.” She broke off in yelps of pain. I felt people’s eyes on me now.

We spoke things back to each other and I interrupted her many times. “I will stay with you until you are sleeping.” I felt her grip begin to loosen. “And rain…” She started. “And rain?” I repeated. “Will make the flowers…” She broke off and brought her hand up towards my cheek. “Grow…” I ended it before her hand slowly dropped to the ground. “Eponine?” I whispered. “No…Eponine.” He held her there in an embrace as she wanted.

“She is the first to fall, the first of us to fall upon this barricade.” Enjolras said softly but loud enough for everyone to hear.

“Her name was Eponine, her life was cold and dark yet she was not afraid.” I added and it had a bit of anger in there because I was angry. She deserved a better life and I noticed that but never did anything to help her.

“We fight here in her name; she will not die in vain.” Someone said. “She will not be betrayed.” Someone else added.

They took her from my hold and I sat there before bringing my hands to my face. I had tears streaming down. I heard voices whispering then Grantaire said, “Enjolras.” In a strict tone before I felt a hand on my shoulder, I looked up to see the drunken man holding a rag out to me. I took it violently and wiped my face and hands.

I had to get my mind off of it all because Cosette- oh Cosette! If I were to die she would be devastated, Eponine would have died for nothing. But Cosette is away so my life means nothing.

I began adding more and more things to the barricade to make it stronger.

I looked over and noticed Gavroche standing there frozen in place with tears streaming down his face. “Gavroche, what is it? What’s wrong?”

Gavroche gave me a look that broke my heart that I felt was already broken. “That-She-Eponine...” He sighed. “She was my sister.” I gasped in air and pulled him into a tight hug as he broke into a violent sob.

I stayed kneeling with him while we wept.
