"I really don't understand why we had to come all the way out here for this. Couldn't we just have flown them out to Korea instead?" He said with hesitance in his words, his hand tugging on the top of his neck tie to loosen it. At the moment it was feeling every bit like a noose that was restricting his air supply.
She smiled at him and pried his hand away from his tie and adjusting it back the way it was, pressing her lips to the corner of his mouth. "I already explained to you that in my culture its very important for a man to go to his girlfriend's parents to ask for her hand in marriage. I cannot marry you if my parents don't agree. This is very important to me, Baek."
He sighed in defeat, giving into her. Of course he knew that she wasn't doing it to make him uncomfortable or to ruin his life. It was truly something that was important to her, just like many of her other traditions.
But he felt like he was outnumbered.
They were in her country, with her people, who spoke her language. Meanwhile he was the odd person out. Although, when he thought about it, this was probably how she felt in Korea too. He was going to be the foreign one just this once and then they'd return to his country where she would be the foreign one once more. Maybe he could live with it for one day. Then there was also the fact that it was her family they were meeting, and not just for any reason. But because he was going to ask her parents for her hand in marriage.
"You'll live, papi." She tried to make him feel better on the Lyft ride to her house. "My dad won't kill you. Hopefully." She muttered the last bit jokingly under her breath.
They were dropped off at her house within a half hour ride from the airport and Narda pushed the gate open. They were immediately greeted by the loud barking of the family dog Echo, as he took in a familiar face, but also someone new accompanying her. With Baekhyun carrying their bags, she ran up to the golden haired dog and pulled him into an embrace. She hadn't seen him since she left for Korea about three years earlier.
