Everything is starting to seem so overwhelming. I gotta do a special studies project and help out my dad by working part time at a fast food restaurant. But the place burned down after an insane robbery by one of my former friends, Brandon. That's when I came to a conclusion that maybe listening to the rap music that the guys in my class listen to. Big mistake. It's only made a lot of more stuff pop in my mind. I have a crush on one Iselle's friends, Mandy. The next day I tried asking her out. The ego I got from the rap music convinced me to do so. Another big mistake. It turns out that she was not interested for some reason. We were an item back in 4th grade and it lasted two years. The only reason why we broke up was because we decided to wait until we matured. But the period after that class which was lunch, I saw her arms around another man. Woman that is. And I knew the woman she was with. That was Bushra, Arelis' enemy. Not only was I heartbroken, but I was also shocked that my ex is now a lesbian. The odds really came to play for this one.
'DING DING!!!' The bell rang, signalling that it was time for next period, which was social studies. One thing my classmates and I have in common: too much studies and not enough social. During class, Mrs. Gonzalez said that we had to write a report on how our society effects our lives today. It seemed very confusing since I didn't know what I was going to do. Suddenly I remembered about the whole rap music thing. That's when I realized that I could use that for my project. Thank God it was an individual project and not a group project.
During the rest of the day, all I could think about was the fact that this was my chance to set the record straight. But I knew it was going to take time and effort in order to make things perfect. So, I went to a library on a Wednesday after school and began my research. I looked up a bunch of A-listers such as kid ink and french Montana. Afterwards, I did a little typing and came up with an awesome power point. The next day, when I told Mrs. Gonzalez, I told her about my project and she said it was actually a great idea, but it wold be difficult to pull off. Finally, the day had arrived and I was very excited to share my piece.
" My topic is how the change from soulful R&B music to rap music effects our lives today" I said. As I was presenting, half of the class were sucking their teeth and giving me disgusted looks. When I was done, unfortunately, my teacher said that students were allowed to comment on my presentation.
" That totally violated our custom" one guy said.
"Word" someone added. " In case you didn't know, R&B is for wack people. So what if rap artists are too much about fame and fortune?!! At least they be getting money". The class went wild. The amount of anger that fueled in me took over.
" You know what !" I yelled. "You think you guys can pick on me for telling the truth. Music is about telling a story and expressing your emotions. You guys are just stuck up little bitches. You're all gonna realize that it ain't all about throwing money around when they're people who are poor and homeless. After all, one mans trash is another mans treasure. And by the way,for the fool who said I don't money like that, at least my outfit is on point and my hairline actually has hair on it" The classroom was filled with tension.
"Relax!!!" screamed Mrs. Gonzalez. She was so angry that you could literally pull he veins out of her head. " Damien and Jamar (the idiots who called me out) , you are both getting detention for the foul play in this classroom and for cursing at Devon" And with that, everyone was silent. Including me.
