"Can I have everyone's attention please!"
I snap out of my trance as Ms.Hershey's booming voice washes over the class like a ripple in water.
"There will be a new student in our class. This is Amelia, everyone. I hope everyone will welcome her. Now Amelia, pick a canvas board to paint on, and paint whatever you would like to paint."
With that short speech Ms.Hershey left the classroom. Everyone was staring at the new girl. A few people sniggered. Amelia just stood there fidgeting with her fingers and looking very uncomfortable. She had the most blondest hair I had ever see in my life which came down their waist. She wore a maroon jumper with black tights and blue denim shorts.
Unintentionally, I met her gaze. For a moment we just stared at each other and then the most weird, amazing thing happened. She smiled at me and then walked over, to take the canvas that we beside me. She put down her new school bag and looked over at my painting.
She gasped.
"You're really good at art, Your painting it's.....it's absolutely beautiful".
I tore my gaze away from her astonished blue eyes and stared at my painting.
I painted a little girl on a tree but you could not see her face because she was looking down, so the view was made from a space above her. The little girl held on to the branch with one hand. She wore a cotton white dress with a yellow lace around the waist. Down below her were her parents. They had their hands above their head to block the sun while they gazed at the little girl which is why their faces could not be seen.
I looked back to Amelia who was staring at me with wonder.
"You make my artwork seem like a piece of shit, by the way, what's your name?"
"Raven" I mumbled.
"Well it's nice to meet you Raven"
I looked into her eyes. For once, this girl was not messing or making fun of my name. Her eyes held pure joy.
Then as she chatted away about teachers and her hate for school, I did something I did not do in a long time.
I smiled.
