"Calm down and tell me exactly what happened Jarred!" the police chief said quite frantically.
Jarred shook, head to toe and looked as white as a sheet. He took his phone out of his pocket slowly and handed it to the chief.
"You recorded the call?" the chief asked.
Jarred managed a nod. The chief opened up the phone and went into the recordings. He pressed on the recorded call quite hesitantly.
The phone beeped and started playing back the call.
There was a ruffled sound of someone breathing.
"Hello" it was Jarred.
There was no sound.
"Hello...!?" Jarred repeated.
"You just put me in the ambulance..." the voice of the girl seemed distant, slow and dead.
"W-what do you mean?" it was Jarred's confused yet fearful voice.
"You couldn't find the killer... you let them run around germany and now they killed me.." her voice was eerie.
There was no response from Jarred.
"You took the stone from my necklace... That dangerous artifact..." the girl continued.
"Amelie..?" Jarred finally questioned.. his voice trembled.
"You know me... you can ask your nephew who I am.." the girl said.
"How are you talking to me!? You were killed.. I saw with my own eyes!" Jarred pressed on, a bit more in fear.
"Hahaha.." There was a high pitched scream and then a ringing silence as the recording ended.
The chief's expression portrayed fear and question.
"Someone trace this call..." The chief handed the phone to Tony as he left to the lab.
"Jarred," the chief started, "What stone was she talking about? And what nephew? Do you know this girl?"
Jarred waited a moment before responding. His voice still trembled.
"The stone was on her Necklace. I touched it to examine but as soon as I came in contact with it, a sudden freezing temperature threw me off. So I gave it to an authority to give it into the lab for research. As for the nephew.. I have to ask him of her. I remember her name faintly from somewhere. I just can't remember where."
The chief seemed to be in thought as he replayed the recording a few times over.
"Who can this killer be.. and how did this girl give you this call if she was the same girl found dead...?" he questioned more to himself. Jarred watched intently as he was also in thought.
"The nephew works for the police department too. In Poland. Maybe if he knew her.. he can investigate all this with us," Jarred suggested.
The chief looked up, taking to consideration what Jarred had just said.
"This nephew of yours.. who would his girl be to him?" The chief questioned, "a friend? A relative? A classmate? Who is she to him?"Jared shook his head, "I wouldn't know chief. I'll ask him tonight. And then maybe we could send this case down to Poland for further investigation."
The chief slowly nodded as they both got up.
"This killer is one clever being. Maybe while he rots in jail we can ask a few questions" the chief added.***
" Alice what are you doing!? Do be careful!" Yelled the female voice to the little girl who was walking around a small pond. The husband of the woman stood behind her and laughed at the little girl's actions.
"Claire she will be fine," he assured.
The woman looked at the little girl and then to her husband. She smiled at the two and nodded in agreement.
The time passed fairly quickly as the two stood outside, watching Alice play.
The woman, Claire started to go back into the house as she called them both inside as well for lunch.
Alice didn't do a very good job of listening as she continued to play.
Jarred, Claire's husband chuckled at his daughters' actions as he too told her to come inside.
"But dad! I don't want to go in yet!" She said.
Jarred looked at Alice with a smile but shook his head.
"You must come in now for lunch. Then you can come back and finish playing." He said sweetly.
Alice poured but then followed her father inside.
The happiness that the family shared wasn't meant to last long. A week after this, Alice was outside yet again.
She walked along side the pond with a smile. Her mother watched her play with a smile."Mum," Alice called suddenly.
"Yes dear"
"What is that over there?" She questioned.
Claire looked into the pond where Alice was pointing. It seemed that there was a type of face in the water. Claire immediately moved Alice away but something caught her hand. It was the figure in the lake. Alice screamed as her mother was pulled into the pond. Jarred came out of the house after the loud noise to find his wife afloat in the water."Claire!!!" He yelled out as he rushed over and pulled her out. Tears filled his helmeted as she did not move.
Alice watched, horror struck as all this played out in front of her. Was she the reason her mother had died?
"What are you thinking of?" Tony Asked Jarred as they ate.
"Of the reason why I joined the police force" answered Jarred thinking back to his dead wife.
Tony looked down sadly. But soon his eyes widened.
"Jarred.. she was pulled into the lake u said...?" Tony asked slowly.
"Yes why?" Jarred asked, not yet following what Tony was referring to.
"And u said you're daughter called her over?" He also questioned."Tony if you are accusing Alice of her death.." Jarred started.
Tony shook his head, "I would never. What I'm asking is that if she was to call Claire over, surely she saw what the killer looked like..."Jarred took time to think about this. His eyes also widened.
"What if... Tony what if the thing that killed my wife is the same thing that's—" he was cut off as his speaker rand in the voice of an authority."Jarred hurry over. Another one dead in the forest..." said the voice.
Tony and Jarred looked at each other before hurriedly rushing to the scene.
