I had been staring at the steaming kettle before me for quite some time now and I was starting to doubt if looks could pierce through objects, how long will it take for me to pierce a hole through this? Great! I have heard sudden shocking experiences could make people lose their minds sometime. And if I am thinking about testing my telekinetic powers on a kettle, I am pretty sure I am on the path to becoming lunatic. Thanks to the people who showed up at my doorstep after not contacting me in 8 years.

At least I had few minutes to collect myself and bombard myself with the questions that I am obviously itching to ask the man sitting in my living room. God where do I even start?

After the initial shock of seeing my father wore off, I recognized the other two men accompanying him. The tall and lanky guy who was standing beside the pillar was my cousin Bright and the other guy with more muscles who was sitting by the doorstep with his head down was my high school best friend Knott. It had been a long time since I saw all of them and seeing them all of a sudden had not only startled me but had rendered me speechless. I had been flooded with a whirlwind of emotions. It was a mix of happiness and sadness with a good amount of nostalgia.

I had ushered them in after nearly breaking down into tears in front of my father and ran into the kitchen to hide with the excuse of making coffee for everyone before we could sit and talk. Now it had been nearly fifteen minutes since I came into the kitchen and I was seriously dreading going back there. I was not ready for this yet.

I was still staring at the kettle even after turning the heat off when Aiden came sauntering into the kitchen with cautious steps.

"Didn't know you had magic powers" he said coming to stand beside me and leaning on the countertop.

"Huh?" I said blinking at him not understanding what he was implying as my mind was racing with a million questions of its own right now.

"Trying to heat up the coffee just by staring at it?" he asked motioning to the kettle and the heat being turned off. I let out a sigh and with a shake of my head started reaching for the coffee mugs from the top shelves.

I started filling them up with slightly shaky fingers and I could feel Aiden looking at me with a analyzing stare practically drilling holes into the side of my head.

"Are you alright A?" he asked with a voice full of concern "Anything I could do?”

I gave a little shake of my head not trusting my voice as it might reveal how shaken I truly was. Aiden had become even more protective in the past few months. Hell he would be breaking down my doors to know what had happened to me if I had not answered his texts or calls during the first few months. Some might find it overbearing but I was grateful to have someone like him as a friend. Better to have an overprotective best friend than to drown yourself in sorrow and loneliness.

“You want me to leave?" he asked a little bit unsure if he should leave me alone with these people or give me some privacy as from my reaction from the doorstep he could easily gather that I knew them.

"No. Its alright. Stay" I said turning to him and offering him a smile to let him believe my words. To be honest I too had started to depend on Aiden recently. After all, I no more had the person that I usually share and consult my problems with. And Aiden had been really doing a great job so far in keeping my mind off the said person.

"Ok. One more thing. You wanna tell me who those people are?" he asked jutting out his thumb in the direction of my living room.

"That's my dad, my cousin and my best friend" I said managing to get that out without a crackle in my voice. Aiden was a little bit taken aback on hearing that. Talking about my family has always been taboo and Aiden had learned it the hard way during the earlier stages of our friendship. Suffice it to say that I had been down for a whole two hours and Aiden was seriously worried that I would break off our friendship or even better his nose. Hell even Kongpob hadn't known entirely about my family.
