ALAIZA'S POV
''What do you remember, Alaiza?'' questioned Melainie with a solemn look, sitting on my bed.
''I don't know, I blacked out after that!'' I answered, annoyed.
Okay so you must be wondering that who exactly is Melainie and who am I? I'm Alaiza, I just turned 16, I study in Bossaye College and it's not more than 15 minutes away from my home. I'm currently living with my Aunt Trazia and Uncle Stan since my parents are in France, on a vacation, and won't be back for quite some time.
Anyway, talking about Melainie, she is my best friend. She's originally from Canada, but she moved to the USA because her father found a job with good pay here. She studies in the same college as me, same class too.
''Don't lie, Alaiza. I know you remember everything. How can you black out all of a sudden?'' said Melainie, eyeing me carefully.
''OK, seriously? You don't believe me? I fainted, for god's sake!'' I said, rolling my eyes.
''Whatever, just tell me whatever happened before that, come on! Try to recount all the events that took place before you passed out, girl!'' urged Melainie.
''Hey, remember Josh? That really hot guy, oh my god, I'm sweating. Haha. You know, I've always fancied him. Anyway, he was there at the party. In fact, he was sitting right next to me on the couch.'' I recalled.
''He's one fine bloke, but I can't stand his flirty attitude. Such a flirt, I tell you. Boy toy much. Anyway, go on.''
''Holly invited you to her farmhouse party too but you didn't turn up. So I remember calling you continuously, sitting on the couch while sipping something. Uh, I can't quite think what it was, but your phone was turned off.''
''Yeah, I was at my cousin's place and my battery died. OK, then what happened?''
''After a while, Josh started talking to me. My legs were literally shaking! We chatted for quite some time and then I stood up to leave the party because I was worried dead about you. So when I was just like 10 paces away from the door, Holly pulled me to the dance floor. We danced, and while we were dancing, I noticed Josh staring at me. We maintained quite some eye contact. Right after that, I started feeling dizzy and well, I passed out. That's all, but I wish there was more.'' I said, blushing all over.
''You need help, honey. I wouldn't mind if you have a crush on some guy else, but Josh is a pervert. I don't know what would've happened there if I didn't arrive just half an hour after. You would had ended up in a ditch or something, girl!'' shrieked Melainie.
''Half an hour later, that's fast!'' I chuckled. "And stop with the 'girl', girrrlll." I said imitating her.
''Whatever, ungrateful brat. So what's new?'' Melainie winked, making herself comfortable on my bed.
''I'm attracted towards Josh, since that party.'' I said dreamily, twisting a section of my hair. I stood up and walked around my room.
''I'm not surprised. Josh is cute with his curly brown hair, freckles and blue eyes but, you know, he's never serious about relationships.'' speculated Melainie, walking up to me and placing a hand on my shoulder.
''I know but, maybe he will change after all.'' I said hopefully, looking in her eyes to show much I meant it.
''I don't think so. Just stop this lovey-dovey thoughts about Josh, I loathe him. OK, never mind. I've got to go now. It's already 8 pm, dad will be going bonkers, you know how my parents are. See you tomorrow at college.'' said Melainie. We hugged each other for a few seconds, then we went out of the room, our feet thudding on the floorboards. Melainie said bye to my aunt, uncle and cousin. Then, I dropped her near the gate.
''Don't hate him so much, Laylay.'' I said (Laylay is Melainie's nickname).
''I couldn't help it, it's natural, you know.'' She groaned.
''Okay but, try not to. He's not that bad.'' I assured her.
''I don't believe you, babe. He's a douchebag. I won't approve it if you date him, like ever, trust me. I'm just okay with it because he's a crush, and I hope that's all that there is to it. Bye, see you tomorrow at college.'' Melainie left without giving me a chance to speak.
I stared after her as she walked, not once did she look back. I closed the metal gate and went back up the stairs sadly.
''Good night.'' I said to Uncle Stan as I passed by.
I opened the door to my bedroom and climbed on my bed tiredly. I turned off the lamp next to my bed. I laid there, staring at empty space and thinking of what Melainie said about Josh. Eventually, I drifted off to sleep.
