Our professor introduces himself as Mr. Algram.  He tells us that he's taught at many schools before us, all magic classes  and that he's even taught at the legendary Stergan University.

"Stergan University has the top magic program in the world. Not a single person who has ever gone there has been hurt or taken and killed ever. They have people whose sole job is to protect the students at all costs." He says with pride.

He then walks over to his computer and turns it on to PowerPoint. 'RULES OF THE CLASS' it says in big bold letters on the screen. Yikes, those things are so boring. I lean back into my seat, resting. Maybe I'll just close my eyes for a minute...

Matt told me this rumour that one of the student protectors once defeated mind control because of how passionate she was of saving the students.

I think about how different Proaklen is from Stergan University as I'm dreaming.

Our school has none of that kind of protection.
The only thing we have are bodyguards who sit into all of our classes, giving internal protection. They stand watch in front of all the students' dorms as well.

The dean told the other non-gifted students that they were there simply to learn, just like anyone else. She said they were practicing how to keep guard and stand tall throughout tough situations.

Apparently, all the students believed it, which surprises me. This is a university, I didn't think people were that stupid. To just believe whatever they're told, dummies.

It may be some sort of magic though. I don't know how the dean would be okay with us being here if she didn't have some kind of power as well.

The threat of being hunted is still there, even though we have some protection. Somehow, scientists are told of our location and send everything to try and get us. Most of the time we have thankfully already hidden by the time they get here.

Not last year.

My shifts from thinking about thoughts to last year to the day I want to forget.

It was around the middle of the second semester and we were all ready for summer so we were getting a little lazy.

The phone starts ringing so Jayme goes and grabs it. "Hello? What? Ok, that's not funny sir. Please hang up. Sir..? Ok, yes thank you, goodbye now." She says, talking back and forth with the person on the phone.

"Apparently the scientists are coming to our location. But he was kinda giggling the entire time so he's either crazy or under extreme pressure." Jayme says, a concerned look on her face, looking to us for clarification of whether to hide or not.

A boy speaks up, "I don't think we should run. If your saying he's laughing the whole time then why should we really believe him?" We all nod in agreement, myself included.

I walk towards Jayme and give her a hug, patting her back gently. "Hey don't worry," I say, rubbing circles on her back. "We'll be ok, it was a prank call." I give her a smile and we walk back over to the group,  joining in on the game of magic charades.

During the entire game, Jayme kept glancing at the window, making sure no one was coming. We all glanced at her with empathy in our eyes. Jayme never did her best in our drills, she was too nervous.

As Matt was trying to act out a stoneskin, Jayme shrieked. "Guys, oh my god, oh my god! They're coming! The scientists are coming!" She screams, urging everyone to take a look and prepare ourselves.

It was chaos as we all tried to hide. We all ran into our hiding spots as Jayme just stared out the window, watching them approach. "Jayme!" I shout-whispered. "Hurry up and hide! They're coming!"
