That Midnight

Chapter 17

Nike looked troubled as she glanced away, then looking back at Kai. Kai gripped her wrist yet Nike couldn't pull out a single answer.

Kai pulled away. "I guess you choose to be a traitor..." Kai said, turning. "...I hope you live-" Nike grabbed Kai's collar as she stared deeply into his eyes. Kai looked surprised by her wild look.

"I don't know what to do Kai." She cried. "I don't know if I should be a traitor or be a loyal brat who's causing problems for Abi-"

"Then cause problems Princess Nike." Kai said, grabbing her arms. He came close to her face. "Has Abi ever told you to stop causing problems?" Nike was silent. "Of course he hasn't told you. He doesn't say anything because he wants you to be troubled and think about him for help." Kai pushed Nike away. "Goodbye Princess Nike." Nike grabbed Kai's hand as she looked at him, desperate.

"I want to go..."

"Then go with me." Kai said. 

"But... What if people find out I'm...."

"Then they find out."

"But what if they want to kill me?" 

"Then we'll protect you. Abi and me." Nike looked at Kai as she gripped his hand.

"Then let's go home-" Liam pulled Nike before Kai was able to grab her tightly. Nike squealed a bit in shock as she was looking at the library instead of Liam and Kai's face. She was on top of Liam's shoulders.

"Aren't you forgetting that you're my wife?" Liam said as he began to walk away. Nike looked at Kai as she reached out her hand. Kai reached out for her hand as their hands touched but slipped. Kai, running after them, tried to pulled Nike away until Kai was kicked in the gut by Liam. Guards came close to them.

"Tie him up and throw him into the human kingdom. Don't bite him. When he's in the human kingdom, throw him on top of a tall tree as a warning that war is going to come-" Liam tore Nike's ribbon from her hair. He threw it at the guards. "Tie it on his wrist. They should know whose it is." Liam continued to walk away as Nike cried out Kai's name as Kai remained on the ground, unconscious.

***In the Human Kingdom***

People pointed and chattered in fear as they looked at the tall pine tree. Kai groaned as he felt his wrists twisting in pain. He woke up groggy as he felt cold air wrap around his legs. Looking down, he saw people pointing at them. Panting in pain, he squirmed. He could see Liam looking at him from a distant tree. He groaned angrily as he saw knights coming thought the crowds. Through it, he could see Marie.

"What.. Is Marie doing here?" He questioned. The knights came to the tree, panting as they saw Kai, squirming. Kai saw them looking angry. He looked down at his body and saw a sign. It was dangling from his neck. He could read it. He squirmed- he then winced. Pain seared at his wrists as he saw blood dripping. It was covering over dried blood.

***After an hour and a half***

Kai laid in Marie's arms as he looked at her, glaring yet tired.

"What.. are you doing here Marie?" Kai asked. "I sent you home."

"I know.." Marie said. "But.. I couldn't forget you.. It seems.. I loved you in the end.." Marie said as she kissed Kai. Kai pulled away slightly when Marie pulled him into a tighter kiss. Kai, giving up because he missed Marie, pulled Marie into a tighter kiss as he ran his hand through her hair.

Pulling away, he said, "Cheat on me and it'll be more than sending you back to your country." Marie smiled as she nodded.

Kai was pulled up as he was taken to the kingdom, given medical treatment. Kai pulled the sign off him as he looked at it. The writing was written in dried blood. It read, "War is coming. Your princess wants to come home. Hurry and save her." Kai threw the sign at the wall as the sign cracked in half, landing with a thud. He glanced at the ribbon in his hand. It was Princess Nike's when he met her in the Vampire kingdom. He pulled his head into his palms as he shrieked, crying in his palms as he remembered Nike crying faintly for him. He couldn't bring her back.

"I'm sorry.. I'm sorry.." He cried. "I'm so-so-sorry!" He cried, hearing Nike's cries to come back home fade. "I'm so.. sorry Abi.." He cried, losing faith that Abi was going to come back- wake up. Kai and Abi lost their parents to vampires and now Kai was going to lose Abi... What was Kai going to do now....
