Dear diary,
it's day twenty-one, it's been three weeks, three weeks since the whole world changed. my life was flipped upside down. first dad was hurt in a police chase, now i'm living in an actual nightmare. these things that come back alive and try to eat us, i like to call them the biters, mom always yells at me because she thinks it will scare carl. but really? we're living in a apocalypse for crying out loud!!! what's scarier than that? anyways i have to go, moms calling me to go help her with laundry down at the lake. write to you later!
sincerely, meI watched as my mom waved her hand at me like a manic, gesturing for me to get off my butt and help. I grunted, climbing to my feet. I tossed my journal on the make shift bed in my tent and walked towards her. I grabbed a basket with clothes in it and followed after my mom and Carol. Amy and I walked side by side, laughing along the way. Amy was only a few years older than me so it was nice having someone to talk too. "You know.. my birthday is in a few days" Amy smiled, I laughed. "I know! I got you something!"
"You're lying!! How!?" She asked, "Remember when I went on that run!!! Well that's when. It's nothing huge, just reminded me of you." I said smiling and kicking a rock down the hill. She shook her head at me and we finally were down by the water. I sat down on a rock and started to wash the clothes. I saw Daryl walk into the distance, emerging from the woods. I waved and smiled, just to be nice but he kept walking ignoring me. I rolled my eyes looking back to the clothes. Amy smirked at me, "Ohh lover girl" she said mocking me. I lightly smacked her arm, smiling lightly. "Yeah right, he barely notices me. Let alone cares."
Amy sighed, "True!" I scoffed, "Aren't you suppose to be supportive of my bad decisions!" I asked laughing, she laughed along with me. "I suppose so.." She quickly changed she subject, "I wonder when they're gonna be back.. It's been longer than they said!"
I sighed and gave her a sad smile.. "I don't know" It got quiet after that and we all worked in silence. I gazed into the water, letting my mind wander.
**Before the apocalypse**
It was a perfectly normal saturday at JCPenny, I was working the register with Aubery and Megan. I glanced at the clock, 3:44. As I punched in my numbers for the register our computers shut down and the lights in the building turned off. Our long line of people gasped, looking around like the rest of us. "I'm sure the power will be on in just a second!" I said to my customer with a smile. Melody one of my mangers walked over and pulled me aside. "When I tell you this, don't act panicked okay." She said with a smile. I nodded smiling back, "Okay..." I said suddenly very suspicious.
"There's something going on outside, there's cops everywhere. They're trying to handle the situation. Remember that attack that happened last week, well there has been a lot more. One just happened outside, and I think it has to do with the power."
I listened carefully, but before I could respond a loud piercing shriek echoed through out
the store. People started scrambling and running, I stood behind the register not really knowing what was going on. I looked to the other two girls and they shrugged, I walked around the corner to see where the screams were coming from and I gasped. A woman lay in a puddle of blood, with another woman crouched over her. I watched as the arm that was in the woman's mouth fell to the ground and she slowly stood up walking towards me. I quickly ran to the break room punching in the code. I opened the door and slammed it shut behind me, making sure that it had locked. I ran to my locker and grabbing my purse, I yanked my phone and keys out of my purse. I dialed my moms number, and she answered on the second ring."Mom! What's going on!?" I said into the phone, I could hear her uneven breaths on the other end of the line. "Listen to me, I need you to get home right now. I'm waiting with Carl and Shane. We're leaving as soon as you get here, please hurry!"
