I sat in the RV trying to make time go by faster. I cleaned the RV inside and I loaded all the water and food into here. I also filled all the empty water bottles back up from the water truck. I sighed and climbed up the ladder to the top of the RV where Dale stood keeping watch. "How do you stand up here all the time? It's so freakin hot!" I said wiping away the sweat that had collected on my forehead. "Well when it concerns everybody's safety i'm happy to do it." He said cracking a smile. "Look i'm sorry that I put you through that with my dad.. I really was planning on coming back last night but I didn't realize how tired I was."
"It's okay! I'm just glad you're okay." He said. I nodded my head, "I uh cleaned the RV for you. I also filled the cabinets with food and water bottles I found. I found some gatorade and random soups too."
"Thank you Jess, now I really forgive you." He said laughing. I rolled my eyes and laughed, "They should be back soon. It's getting late." I said, a look of concern flooding my soft features. As if on cue Daryl, Andrea, Glenn and Carol emerged from the woods.
"Where's my mom and dad? Carl.. Shane..?" I asked quickly climbing down the ladder and dropping to my feet. Andrea rubbed her hand up and down my arm, a look of pity on her face. "What happened?" I asked scared for the worst. "Carl was shot... we split from your dad Shane and Carl. There was some type of accident, we don't really know the story. Some girl rode up out of no where and took your mom to him. She gave us the location of the farm."
Tears welled in my eyes, "Oh god.." I whispered, my poor baby brother. I quickly wiped my tears away before they could fall down my cheeks. "How do you get there? I'll go by myself. You guys can stay here..." I said quickly. I ran into the RV and grabbed my bag. I slung it over my shoulder, when I walked back out Glenn and T dog were waiting for me. "We're coming with, T dog needs help with his arm anyway and I know how to get there." Glenn said. I nodded my head and got in the car. As we started to drive off in the blue car I found, I watched as Daryl locked his eyes with mine until we could no longer see each other. I sat back in my seat, trying not to cry.
Soon enough we were driving down a dirt road and a white house was coming into view. A girl was waiting for us on the porch, I jumped out of the car. "Where's my brother?" I asked, tears starting to well up in my eyes again. "Right this way!" She said leading me back into the house. Once I walked into the room and saw Carl laying on the bed, looking pale as ever that's when I really started to cry. "Oh my god.. dad, mom?"
My mom and dad rushed to bring me into a tight hug. "What happened?" I chocked out. My dad explained what happened and I sat down on the bed holding Carl's small hand in mine. My mom left and went to get my dad something to eat. I looked up and over at my dad so was sitting in the chair on the other side of the bed. "Dad i'm sorry.. I didn't mean what I said.. I am still your little girl. I always will be.."
My dad reached across the bed and held my other hand. "I know Jess." He said, tears in his eyes too. I gave him a small smile and looked back at Carl. Once Shane came back from the school with all the supplies Hershel needed, we were kicked out of the room so he could work his magic. We all three sat on the couch outside of the room, trying our best to comfort each other. Hershel came out of the room and we stood up waiting for the news. "He'll pull through. I got all the fragments out." He said. I sighed in relief and hugged my mom who hugged me back instantly crying into my neck. We rushed into the room and sat beside him, holding his hand and talking to him even though he probably can't hear us.
*Next Day*
I woke up the next morning curled up next to Carl. I sat up and looked around the room, no one was in here besides the two of us. I sighed and looked down at Carl who slept peacefully. I saw his eyes begin to flutter and I sat up straighter, waiting for his eyes to open, for him to say something. His eyes slowly opened and he blinked repeatedly, trying to recover from the bright light. "Sissy.." He said with a small smile. I laughed as tears brimmed my eyes, "How're you feeling?" I asked. "Not so good.." He said a frown on his face. "I know buddy but you're gonna be alright okay? I'm gonna stay right here. I'm not leaving." I said grabbing his hand.
