One of the stories that I am most proud of and one of my most popular on here is "The only exception" It was one one of the first stories I ever wrote on here, and it's still on of my favorites. So, considering it's over a year old now, I thought it would be fun and awkward for me to read the first chapter and just...make a few notes. I haven't looked at this thing pretty much since it was posted so this should be fun. Please note, that I did not edit or change anything in the chapter before doing this. Enjoy!
(Apparently I couldn't be bothered with author notes back then)
*Alex's pov*(Alex pov*)
I pull up to my friend James, who is sitting on the sidewalk, shuddering. Even though its summer, its very cold today. His head snaps up when he sees my car, his eyes narrow slightly. I flinch, I know he's pissed. I'm late picking him up. He opens the car door and climbs inside. I shiver as a rush of cold air sweeps through the car. He shuts the door and looks at me. ( I had literally no idea where I was going with this at this point. I just made it up as I went along)
"You're late." He mumbles irritably.
"I know I'm sorry, I lost track of time." He nods.
"So, how was work?" I ask casually.
"Shitty." He says shortly. This time I nod, the rest of the car ride was pretty much silent. (James dickmode:ACTIVATED!)
We arrive home, and he looks at me, seeming happier.
"So what were you doing that you lost track of time?" He asks. I blush remembering the guy I had met earlier that day. James's eyes widen.
"What were you doing Alex?" He asks raising an eyebrow and smirking.
"Well, I met someone." I answer tying keep my voice casual. James squeals, mocking the voice of a gossiping teenage girl. (Amazing description. A++)
"Oh was he hot? Tell me about him." Incase(In case*) you are wondering, yes I am gay. James is not, but he totally accepts me. (Good thing we cleared that up.)
"His name is Blake. I met him at Taco Bell while I was getting lunch." I felt my checks growing hot as I recount the events of today.
*Flashback*
I grab my tray full of food and turn to find a table. As I walk around searching, I bump into someone. We collide head on and our food covers the floor.
"Shit I'm sorry I wasn't looking." I mumble dropping to my knees to pick up the food. The other person laughs.
"Don't even worry about it dude, I honestly wasn't looking either." I look up to see a pair of cobalt( Not just blue eyes, cobalt blue eyes. As if there's a fucking major difference...) blue eyes staring back at me. I blush and finish picking up the food. (Why so much blushing? Good lord)
"Is all your food ruined?" The dude asks me.
"No, most of its okay, what about yours?"
"Same." I stand up
"I really am sorry." He shrugs
"Hey do you want to sit down with me and hangout for a bit?" He asks. I blink in confusion.
"Why?" I ask, but then regret it realizing how rude it sounds. He chuckles.
"I don't know, you seem like a cool guy, and I just moved here, so I figured I should attempt to make some friends." I nod (I actually do give myself credit for not having dialog that is complete and total shit)
"Alright, sure." He smiles and leads me to a table. We sit down, I look at him, fully taking in his image. His hair is black, short and spikey. He has a septum ring and a cute birthmark to the right of his mouth. He smiles at me and I blush slightly. (Again with the blushing!)
"So what's your name?"
"Alex, how about you?"
"Blake, how old are you?"
"22, and yourself?"
"22. What job do you have?"
"I work in a tattoo parlor, you?" (I take back what I said about the dialog.)
"I used to play guitar in a band, but I am currently jobless. Okay you ask me something." I think for a minute.
"Why did you move here?" His face falls slightly, but he quickly recovers.
"Well, long story short. I told my friends and family I was gay and they didn't take it well. My mother disowned me, and my friends abandoned me. My sister was the only one who accepted me, she and I still talk all the time, but other then that I have no connection with anyone from back home." He finishes looking down.
"I'm so sorry that happened to you, you don't have to worry about that with me. I'm gay too." He grins
"Really? Good to know." I nod. I look to see he is staring at me. I blush.
"What?" He blushes and looks down. (So..much... BLUSHING)
"You're cute." He says quietly. I smile at him, nobody's ever called me cute before.
"You're cute too." His blush deepens. I could swear, I saw him leaning towards me slightly. But my phone went off. (HOW CONVENIENT!) I look at it seeing I am supposed to be picking up James right now. Shit! I bolt up from the table.
"I have to go I'm really sorry, I have to pick up a friend from work." He smiles, but he looks disappointed.
"Its alright, why don't we exchange numbers." He suggests, I nod. We exchange numbers and goodbyes and I run out the door and rush to James's work.
*End Flashback*
I smile to myself, maybe I should text Blake.
"Alex I don't know about him. He sounds sketchy. " I blink looking at James. His face was calm, but his eyes were blazing. It wasn't anger, it was something else.(What could it be?!!? I can't handle the intensity!!)
"James are you okay?"
"I'm fine just promise me you'll be careful"
"Okay I promise." He smiles but his eyes don't change. He stands up, ruffles my hair, (lolwut)and walks away. What was that look in his eyes? It almost looked like jealousy. Was James jealous of Blake? No of course not! James wasn't gay.....was he? (Was he? WAS HE? Dun dun DUUUUN. MASTER CLIFFHANGER SKILLZ)
Okay, that was far less painful then I thought it would be.
In all honesty, I know it might seem like I'm being a bit harsh on the story. Even though I'm poking fun at it and pointing out some flaws, I still love it dearly and I do not regret writing this at all. :)
I hope you enjoyed this and I'll try to most more soon! Also I love you and you look great today!
