I don't know how long I'd waited before I fell asleep, but when I woke up to my alarm going off for the first time in a very long time, I jumped out of bed so fast I got whiplash, but that didn't stop me. I ran toward the living room all the while calling out, "MOM!... Mo-om!," by the time I reached the living room my voice was barely above a whisper, "Mom?"
Eventually, after what felt like hours of standing there - which was only a couple minutes - I walked back into my room, changed into one of my old worn out outfits, ate what was left of the cereal, and walked out the door, not even realizing that I had left my homework on the coffee table and my backpack was peculiarly light. I made it to school ten minutes late, due to traffic. At this point, I was hungry, tired, and in no mood to deal with Makayla's bull****. I made it through the front doors and again there were the cool kids, chatting away by my locker like it was a perfectly fine thing to do - sure go ahead stand by people's lockers all day like it's the most obvious thing in the world. ***holes! As usual, as I was leaving, I heard Makayla give one of her snide remarks. And again I ignored her giving her the cold shoulder like I didn't even hear her, but inside I was fighting a battle between telling her off or being the bigger person. I swear I was like a ticking time bomb, any second now I could explode, any sudden movement and I could explode.
I walked into A.P. English Literature, and already half the class was seated in their seats, some paying attention to what the teacher was writing, others talking to their neighbors, and the rest texting their 'Besties'. I sat in my seat paying attention to what the teacher was writing...
English Essays - Due 10/11/17 - TODAY!!
After I finished reading the board my stomach dropped, and I felt like I was going to heave. I forgot my essay along with the rest of my homework in the living room. Oh, shit! Shit, Shit, SHIT!! Thinking that I left my homework at home reminded me why I had forgotten it in the first place. I frantically took out my cell phone and checked to see if my mom had called me or sent me any texts. A frown found its way onto my face as I noticed she had not called or texted, which was very unlike her she'd never leave without telling me where she was going. I went to the text message app and started sending her text after text, 'Mom where are you' 'Mom I know somethings wrong please text me back' 'Mother please respond to one of my texts I'm starting to...' before I could finish the text message the teacher slammed her hands on my desk, which made me flinch back in response.
"Ms. James, are you too occupied with your cell phone to acknowledge that you're in a classroom? A classroom that doesn't allow cell phones," she snapped anger and annoyance lacing her every word.
My heartbeat picked up speed as I contemplated what to say to her. I had never gotten in trouble with a teacher, but then again I'd never forgotten my homework either. I guess under the circumstances I'm allowed to break a few of my lifelong rules.
"Uh... Er... Uhm... I'm sorry Mrs. Jones. It umm... It won't happen again," I stuttered out. By now every single head had turned in our direction, including Makayla and a couple of her snobby friends.
"I know it won't. I'll make sure of that. Now Ms. James, where's your essay?"
"Well you see, I woke up late today and I forgot my homework on ..." I didn't even get to finish my sentence before she turned around and started walking to her desk, all the while saying, "Detention Ms. James," in a monotonous voice.
After hearing the words I hoped I'd never hear in my life, I sunk into my chair and rested my head on my arms. As I was trying to control my temper I heard Makayla say to her followers,
"I guess she went psycho just like her mother," once I heard that the bomb went off. And the time to finally say the juiciest, cruelest comeback was now. I looked up and gave her one of my most deadliest glares. As she turned to me and was about to say what I assume was, 'What?' with that high pitched, sorry excuse for a voice, all the anger and frustration finally come out as I lost all traces of sanity.
